The free audio walk on Pærskerstien starts in Pedersker, and cycling route 10 and regional route 24 meet in the village. South of Pedersker, there is also a large holiday home area and some of Bornholm’s best beaches. This gives you both local landmarks and a connection to the surrounding southern area.

Routes, everyday life in the village and the surrounding southern area

The audio walk on Pærskerstien is available through the Sansâga Walks app. As app availability may change, check that the app is available before setting out. The nearby Lynggårdsskoven offers a different kind of walk: a marked route of about 1.5 kilometres runs through its southern section. The forest is also known as Pedersker Skov and is Bornholm’s youngest state forest.

Pedersker lies at the junction of cycling route 10 and regional route 24. This provides a specific landmark for planning a cycling trip. Check current route maps and signs before setting out. The distinction is practical: the cycling routes meet in the village, while the marked route runs through the southern section of the nearby forest.

The local language is another detail: the Brugsen supermarket in Pedersker has signs with text in the Bornholm language. Alongside the routes and the forest, this offers a glimpse of the village’s linguistic character.

South of Pedersker, there is a large holiday home area and some of Bornholm’s best beaches. When planning where to stay, you can consider the village itself and its southern surroundings as separate points of reference.

Bornholm as a wider area to explore

Other cultural attractions on Bornholm add to the impressions of Pedersker. At the NaturBornholm experience centre, you can see dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition. As exhibitions may change, check what is currently on display before visiting. Bornholms Middelaldercenter offers a different focus: this 15-hectare open-air museum brings 14th-century Bornholm to life in an informative and interactive way.

Bornholm has several places connected with the history of smoking fish. The island’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, where herring has been smoked ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood.

For landscape enthusiasts, Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley. Two viewpoints offer different vistas: from the Hammershus visitor centre, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Hammershus. From the cliffs above Opal Lake, the view stretches across the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the ruins of Hammershus Castle.

Bornholm can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. If you are planning to take the ferry, check the current timetable.
