Årsballe can be explored through specific route choices and practical visitor facilities. When choosing a route, two options are clearly distinct: the path around Årsballe Mose and the longer route between Klemensker and Årsballe.

Paths around Årsballe

The 1.5 km path goes around Årsballe Mose. Another option is the approximately 9 km route between Klemensker and Årsballe. It starts on Mælkevejen, continues along Kongestien to Årsballe, and passes the meeting places Billen and Fuglemosen as well as Naturhuset. The routes therefore differ not only in length but also in their course: one goes around the lake at Årsballe Mose, while the other connects two places via named paths and meeting places.

Access to the paths may be temporarily affected by conditions on the land or by hunting. Before setting out, check whether the route you plan to take is accessible.

Practical visitor facilities in the village

A municipal post dated 19 September 2025 lists specific facilities for visitors in Årsballe: you can eat food you have brought with you, refill a water bottle at the outdoor kitchen area, charge a mobile phone and use a toilet.

The post also describes the facilities at the community hall in Årsballe, including new communal areas, a kitchenette and an accessible toilet.

It also reports that shared meals are held monthly in Årsballe. If you would like to include one in your plans, ask about the dates in advance.

A mill’s history between Årsballe and Melsted

Tejn Mølle, also known as Melsted Mølle, was built in Årsballe around 1800 and moved to Melsted in 2006. The mill’s history therefore stretches from its original site to its later relocation.

Bornholm in the wider travel picture

On Bornholm, the NaturBornholm experience centre offers insights into subjects ranging from dinosaurs and living crocodiles to an aquarium and a bison exhibition. As exhibitions can change over time, check in advance what is currently on display during your visit.

The landscape also offers different perspectives: the Hammershus visitor centre provides panoramic views of Hammershus. From the cliffs above Opal Lake, the view extends across the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the Hammershus castle ruins. Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley.

Bornholm’s Medieval Centre brings cultural history to life: this 15-hectare open-air museum vividly and interactively portrays Bornholm in the 14th century. Another historical thread leads to the island’s food culture. Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked traditionally, using open chimneys and alder wood.

Bornholm can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. Check current timetables when planning your journey.
