You can explore Švábenice through its architectural and local history, as well as its named routes. The Church of St. Michael, the Muzeum Švábenice and the sculpture ensemble of the Most Holy Trinity each offer a different cultural and historical perspective. There is also a route from Švábenice towards Zdravá voda and a cycling route that passes through the town. When looking for a holiday apartment in Švábenice, you can first decide whether architectural and collection history or a route should be the focus of your stay.

Baroque architectural history at St. Michael’s

The parish Church of St. Michael was built in the Baroque style between 1716 and 1718. Its tower is 53 metres high. Its valuable art-historical features include a wooden pulpit, redesigned in 1851. The dates provide different points of reference: 1716 to 1718 marks the construction period, while 1851 marks a later change to the church’s furnishings. This makes it possible to understand the building both through the period in which it was built and through the history of a single feature.

The museum and its collection highlights

The Muzeum Švábenice is housed in a historic former school building dating from 1838. Its permanent exhibitions span eight rooms and cover social life as well as the history and past of Švábenice. There is also a permanent exhibition of nativity scenes, with around 1,400 examples. The themes offer different perspectives: the exhibitions cover society and local history, while the nativity-scene collection is a clearly defined collection highlight. This is distinct from the church museum in the parish Church of St. Michael. It preserves paintings, sculptures, prints and other objects relating to the history of the church, parish and town. The church museum is closed until further notice; check its status before visiting.

Monuments and traces of the past

The sculpture ensemble of the Most Holy Trinity is the oldest cultural monument in Švábenice; an inscription dates its erection to 1711. The former castle chapel stood roughly where the present-day Chapel of the Virgin Mary Na Hradě is located. In the 12th century, Augustinians from Zderaz Monastery held services there in the Latin rite for the lords of Švábenice. The historical references differ: the history of services places the chapel in the 12th century, while the inscription on the sculpture ensemble gives a specific year for its erection.

A walking route and a cycling route

The route “Through the Ancient Landscape of the Hříběcí Mountains from Švábenice to Zdravá voda” leads from Švábenice via the Na Jezírku Chapel towards Zdravá voda. The cycling route “Through the Picturesque Landscape of Němčicko” passes through Švábenice and is suitable for recreational cycling. This gives you a clear distinction when planning: the first route starts in Švábenice and follows a course via a chapel towards Zdravá voda; the second passes through the town and is intended for recreational cycling. Depending on whether you want to focus on a route towards Zdravá voda or a cycling activity, the two routes offer different options.
