Studnice lies in the southwestern part of the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. A hiking trail whose name refers to regional legends, protected wetland landscapes and local cultural heritage give the village several distinctive features. This allows travelers to consider nature and local history as separate reasons for planning their stay.

Hiking with Regional Storytelling

The “Za pověstmi Drahanské vrchoviny” (Following the Legends of the Drahanská vrchovina) hiking trail starts in Studnice’s village square and is approximately 6.4 kilometers long. There are twelve information boards along the route, each designed as a wooden sculpture. The trail’s name refers to the legends of the Drahanská vrchovina; the sculptures give this theme a visible form. As well as its approximate length, the trail therefore has a clear focus—an appealing option for travelers who want to combine hiking with regional storytelling.

Wetlands and Nature Watching

The Studnické louky Nature Reserve lies below Studnice toward Kulířov, at a place called Pod Fasůvkou. It protects wet meadow communities in a stream valley where protected plant species grow. A meandering stream and its bankside vegetation are also among the protected features. The meadows, stream and bankside vegetation give the area a clear connection to the wet landscape of the stream valley.

The Odrůvky wetlands near the municipality of Studnice offer another perspective on nature. In the village district of Odrůvky, restored wetlands and an orchard provide a habitat for numerous animals and are also a popular place for walks and relaxation. At the Odrůvky wetlands, visitors can observe carp, grass carp, wild geese and other animal and plant species. Studnické louky and Odrůvky offer different points of interest: the former focuses on protecting meadows and stream landscapes, while the latter also offers walks and wildlife watching.

Church, Art and Memorial

The village’s history can also be seen in specific objects. The tower of the Church of St. Giles houses a death bell dating from 1552, and a statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1831 stands in front of the church. An altarpiece of St. Giles by Josef Hellich of Prague, dating from 1854, is also in Studnice. The war memorial in Studnice was restored in 2017 in collaboration with the Mechlov association.

The dates represent different historical periods: the bell, statue and altarpiece date from the 16th and 19th centuries, while 2017 is the year the memorial was restored. Sacred objects and the war memorial thus both offer tangible points of connection for exploring the village’s history.

Reaching Studnice by Bicycle

Traveling by bicycle is another option: away from the main roads, Studnice can be reached via a cycle path that passes the castle ruins of Kuchlov and Stagnov. The two ruins give the route a historical dimension. Unlike the hiking trail that starts in the village square, this route focuses on traveling by bicycle; the hiking trail, by contrast, centers on the legends of the Drahanská vrchovina. These different features can help you plan your outing around the activity you prefer.
