Ruprechtov offers two distinctive perspectives for a trip of discovery: technical and ecclesiastical history, and nature to the west of the town. On the edge of the town stands a windmill with a Halladay turbine; to the west lies Rakovecké údolí Nature Park. There is also a cycle route that runs through Ruprechtov. You can decide which of these themes matters most based on your travel dates and interests.
Windmill, cottage and church
The windmill on the edge of the town is a technical cultural monument with a unique Halladay turbine. It was built in 1873 as a Dutch-type windmill. From October to April, groups of ten or more can arrange guided tours. Allow time to arrange an appointment and check seasonal availability before your trip.
The thatched-roof cottage dating from 1813 is also a protected cultural monument. It is open during events or by prior telephone arrangement. Bear these conditions in mind when planning your visit and arrange a visit in advance.
Another focus of cultural history is the Church of Saint Wenceslas. It was consecrated on 28 September 1946; three frescoes were created by Brno artist Ludvík Kolek in 1963. The year of consecration and the frescoes point to two different periods in the town’s history and offer a distinct counterpoint to the windmill’s technical history.
Nature, seasons and cycle route
Rakovecké údolí Nature Park lies west of Ruprechtov. The Rakovecké stráně a údolí bledulí protected area safeguards the floodplains of the Rakovec stream; large stands of protected spring snowflakes bloom there in spring. If you plan your trip around the bloom, you can take the spring timing into account. This makes it a seasonal contrast to the windmill tours, which can be arranged from October to April.
Three monumental spruces stand in the meadow U Tří smrků, in the cadastral area of Ruprechtov. The meadow lies amid forests consisting mainly of spruce and beech. At this landscape feature, the focus is on the open meadow and surrounding forests; in the protected area by the Rakovec, it is the floodplains and spring bloom.
For cyclists, cycle route No. 5072 is a specific point of reference: it runs from Kuchlov to Habrovany through Ruprechtov. If you plan your trip around this route, its path through the town can help you plan your stages.
Historical traces
Remains of fortification ramparts and ditches have been preserved at Hradiště Černov. The Hradiště Černov oppidum lies in Rakovecké údolí Nature Park between Račice, Ježkovice and Ruprechtov. Its location is thus defined by three named places and the nature park. Another historical point of reference is Hamlíkov, an abandoned village 1 km northeast of Ruprechtov. The subjects differ: one is about preserved fortification remains, the other about an abandoned village.
