The history of Nesovice has a clear landmark in Nové Zámky Castle: construction began in 1561. Nesovice railway station is also on line 340 between Brno and Uherské Hradiště. If you are planning to travel by train, check the current timetable, as train services may change.
Nové Zámky Castle: an unfinished building
Construction began under the then owner, Záviš z Víckova. The plans were drawn up by an unknown Italian master builder. A four-winged castle was planned, but it remained unfinished; only the north and east sections survive. In 1645, the castle was looted and damaged. The history of Nové Zámky can thus be traced through its commission, design, surviving sections and subsequent damage.
Chapels and their history
The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was consecrated in September 1936. It houses an old statue of the saint, moved here from a demolished chapel. Pavel Jan Křtitel Souček was a patron of its construction. These details link the consecration with the statue’s origins and the support of a patron.
In the area below the castle, the Chapel of Saint Anthony was converted from a bell tower in 1912. The village of Letošov, part of Nesovice, also has a small Marian chapel dating from 1921. The three chapels add different historical reference points to the history of the village: a consecration, the relocation of a statue, the conversion of a bell tower, and another small chapel in Letošov.
Walking trails and landscape
Nesovice stretches along the Litava stream and lies on the northern edge of Ždánický les Nature Park. A green hiking trail leads from the railway station through the forest to the U Kříže signpost, where there is a wooden shelter for resting. This trail offers a specific rest stop to use as a landmark when planning your walk.
Another excursion, 33 kilometres long, leads to a trail junction with an information board about the local flora. This gives you a choice of different landmarks: a hiking trail with a forest section and shelter, or a longer excursion focused on plant life. The information about the 33-kilometre excursion describes its length and destination, not how long it takes to walk.
Cycling, outdoor pool and Hody
A cycling route leads from Nesovice railway station towards Vyškov via cycle route 5029. As route conditions may change, check the latest route information before setting out. The seasonal Koupaliště Nesovice outdoor pool has a children’s paddling pool and a beach volleyball court. Check current operating details before your visit.
The Hody festival is celebrated in Nesovice at the end of June; the dates vary each year. If you would like to include the festival in your stay, check the dates for the relevant year. When looking for a holiday apartment, Hody and the seasonal opening of the outdoor pool are useful factors to consider when choosing when to travel. The castle and chapel histories, as well as the hiking and cycling routes, offer further cultural and landscape themes to include in your plans.
