Černov Educational Trail: Forest, Hills and History

The approximately 6 km-long Černov Educational Trail begins directly opposite the Ježkovice municipal office. It passes through fairly hilly, forested terrain; information boards explain historical and natural points of interest. Along the way, the landscape is thus linked with its historical and natural themes. The approximate trail length gives you a concrete measure for planning, while the forest and hills shape the character of the terrain. If you would like to take in nature and local history together on an outing, that is what makes the trail particularly appealing.

A View Over Ježkovice

A hexagonal shelter with a gabion base was built west of Ježkovice in 2015. A report from 2016 describes the view from there over the entire village and the communal retention basins, which had recently been reconstructed at the time. The viewpoint adds a different perspective to the educational trail: its information boards explain natural and historical themes, while the western viewpoint looks out over the village and the basins.

Nearby Hradiště Černov

The Celtic hillfort of Hradiště Černov lies in the vicinity of Ježkovice, 2 km from the village. It is among the earliest evidence of Celtic settlement in Czechia and is also the only verified site in Moravia dating from the early period of Celtic settlement. The oval hillfort covers 9.3 ha and lies on a wooded promontory; its fourfold fortification is still visible in the terrain. Two aspects are important for understanding the site: its prominent role in early Celtic settlement and the still-visible form of its fortification.

Religious Monuments and Buildings

There are seven smaller religious monuments in the cadastral area of Ježkovice, recorded in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments. In the village centre, opposite the municipal office, stands a bell tower with a bell and a niche containing an image of Saint Florian. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built in 1939. The number seven refers to the group of religious monuments in the cadastral area; the bell, the image of Saint Florian and the chapel’s construction date offer specific details about individual buildings.

Memorials and Local History

The history of Ježkovice dates back to 1375. The memorial to those killed or missing in the First World War depicts a weeping woman and child looking at a military helmet wrapped in laurel leaves. It lists a total of 36 people killed or missing. At the edge of the village, on the road towards Ruprechtov by the forest, a stone block serves as a memorial to the capitulation of the German army in the Second World War. The two memorials also differ in their design: one combines figures with a list of names, while the other takes the form of a stone block. Thus, the village’s history, which dates back to 1375, sits alongside memorials to both world wars.
