Ivanovice na Hané combines castle and church history with a distinctive landscape: a 32.4-kilometre circular route leads through the gently rolling Haná landscape, dotted with ponds. A black locust tree in the town park is also part of the town’s character. When planning your stay, you can choose between two different focuses: historic buildings and a longer walk through the Haná region.

Location and orientation

The town lies on the Haná River, next to the D1 motorway and the Brno–Přerov railway line. Bus connections run to Vyškov and Brno. Timetables may change; check current services before travelling. The town park is home to a black locust tree about 340 years old, one of the oldest surviving trees of its kind in Moravia.

Castle and St. Andrew’s Church

The late Renaissance castle has a valuable arcaded courtyard. The Bukůvka family began construction in 1608; the work was carried out by Antonín Pariz of Brno, with the help of master stonemason Jan Foncun. As of 24 August 2026, the castle was not open to the public. Check access again before your trip.

The Church of St. Andrew stands at the head of the town square and is considered a prominent landmark; the castle lies to its southeast. The church has a Gothic core, was remodelled in the second half of the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. Its Baroque remodelling is part of its architectural history, as is the bell tower, dating from 1759, with its Baroque sculptures. The sequence of building phases makes different periods tangible in a single church. St. Andrew’s Church is one of the town’s historic monuments.

Further traces of the town’s history

The Cemetery Chapel of St. Joseph was built in 1824 by František, Margrave of Lusignan; his family crypt is beneath the arcade. The sculptural ensemble of St. Florian is a High Baroque religious complex dating from 1721 to 1729. The monumental plinth depicts St. Florian, St. Wenceslas, John the Baptist and the Guardian Angel.

The Jewish cemetery on the eastern edge of Ivanovice na Hané has gravestones dating from the early 17th century. The Jewish community in Ivanovice na Hané had ceased to exist by 1940. The town’s market history is also marked by historical dates: in 1507, the town received the privilege to hold an annual fair; in 1547, Ferdinand I approved a third annual fair, to be held on the Tuesday after Pentecost. These privileges are part of the history of the town’s markets.

The Haná landscape and circular route

The circular route starts in Ivanovice na Hané on Mlýnská Street and leads through the gently rolling Haná landscape, dotted with ponds. It is 32.4 kilometres long. Route conditions may change; check the route and conditions before setting out. The walk offers a different focus from the historic buildings: it is a longer route through the landscape.
