Southeast of Vranovice lies Vranovický a Plačkův les, a European site of community importance in the Natura 2000 network. In the town, historic buildings, leisure activities and traditional events complement the focus on nature. When planning your trip, you can explore different sides of Vranovice rather than limiting your stay to a single attraction.
Natural landscape and route connections
The protected area encompasses several habitats: hardwood floodplain forests, wet alder stands, reed beds and tall-sedge communities, as well as ponds with aquatic plants. Fragmentary softwood floodplain forests are also found along the Šatava. This diversity of floodplain forest, wetland areas and small bodies of water provides a habitat for numerous amphibians and birds. If you are interested in nature and landscapes, Vranovický a Plačkův les offers a specific focal point for exploring the area.
Another route connection is the western branch of the Brněnská vinařská stezka, which ends beyond Vranovice. A named protected area and a clearly described endpoint of a regional route thus offer distinct starting points for planning your trip.
Architectural history in the town
The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary (Kostel Navštívení Panny Marie) was built between 1868 and 1870 and consecrated on May 29, 1870. Vranovice Ossuary (Vranovice Kostnice) offers a different historical perspective: the circular building dates from the 17th century and is of the medieval charnel house type. The 17th-century date and the medieval building type refer to two different aspects of the structure. The consecration took place in the final year of construction.
Boží muka is a freely accessible monument at a railway crossing in Vranovice. It is a traditional Baroque wayside shrine dating from the first half of the 19th century. The history of the statue of Saint Florian can also be traced through specific dates and locations: it was erected in 1799 at the site of today’s church and moved in 1868 to its present location, in the small park in front of the primary school building. The statue’s different locations give local history its own timeline, without conflating the statue with the construction of the church.
Leisure and traditions
For outdoor activities, Hlinek Park has a children’s playground and outdoor fitness equipment. Sports facilities include football goals and a basketball hoop. At Bazén swimming pool, you can enjoy public swimming, swimming lessons and aqua fitness. You can choose between activities in the park and various things to do in the water; the options listed range from casual public swimming to classes and fitness activities.
The event calendar includes regular wine exhibitions. Hody are also among Vranovice’s traditional events. Alongside nature, architectural history and exercise, both offer a cultural side to the town, without requiring you to plan around a specific event date.
