Vohančice combines castle history with a landscape of wooded hills and meadows. Three specific points of interest can help you plan your trip: the castle’s architectural history, local traditions and the cycling network. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these aspects of the village will matter most during your stay.
Landscape in the Křižanovská vrchovina
Vohančice lies in the Křižanovská vrchovina and is surrounded by wooded hills and meadows. The cadastral area also contains orchards. The Heroltický potok, a tributary of the Svratka, runs along the southern boundary of this area. These landscape features are in different locations: hills and meadows surround the village, orchards lie within the cadastral area, and the stream runs along its southern edge. When comparing potential destinations, you can therefore consider the rural landscape as well as the cultural attractions.
The castle and chapel tell different architectural stories
Vohančice Castle is one of the village’s important landmarks and an example of late Mannerist castle architecture in a rural setting. The former fortress was converted into a single-storey Renaissance castle in 1600. Two Baroque wings were added later, forming a U-shaped rectangular courtyard together with the original building. Classicist alterations and a preserved Robot bell tower are also part of the architecture. This sequence connects the 1600 conversion with later additions and alterations, rather than reducing the castle to a single period.
Another chapter in the village’s history is centred on the Chapel of St Joseph. It was built in 1906 on the site of an earlier triangular wayside shrine. Thus, a single year marks the transition from shrine to chapel, while the castle’s history is shaped by several phases of rebuilding. Those interested in architectural history will therefore find two different timelines in Vohančice: a specific new construction at the beginning of the 20th century and the gradual development of an older castle.
Traditions and event dates
Some Christmas and Easter traditions, the burning of witches and St Nicholas processions are still observed in Vohančice. The revival of the Václavské hody festivities began in 2003; check current dates before your trip. The municipal strategic plan of 2021 also mentions annual dance events. Check the current events calendar if you would like to plan your stay around a particular festival or event.
Plan your cycling routes and bus connections
Cycling route 5198 passes through Vohančice and forms part of the Předklášteří–Pod Pasníkem–Deblín–Vohančice–Březina circuit. This sequence of villages places the route within a larger loop; check the current signage before setting out. The local cycling routes connect to the Mikroregion Porta and Čebínka cycling networks. Here too, it is advisable to check current connections before planning a specific ride.
In August 2026, IDS JMK bus route 331 connected Vohančice with Tišnov, Březina, Heroltice, Pejškov and Deblín. Check the timetable before travelling. This gives you two different transport considerations to bear in mind when planning: cycling route signage and a bus connection that suits your schedule. Which one is relevant to your stay depends on whether you plan to explore Vohančice by bike or travel by bus.
