Úsuší brings together distinctive cultural sites and a variety of landscape and route connections. The chapel and roadside shrines represent different aspects of the village’s history; the Úsušský remízek and the cascade ponds near Pod Čudánkou add their own landscape features. For planning, it helps to keep these themes separate: the hiking trail, the challenging mountain biking route and the other marked cycling connections each have their own points of interest.
Chapel and Stone Roadside Shrines
Úsuší was first mentioned in 1466. The chapel, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, was built in 1882. The two dates mark distinct historical references: the first mention concerns the village, while the year of construction concerns the chapel. Úsuší is also home to Boží muka (roadside shrines). These finely designed, Neoclassical stone pillar shrines are elaborately crafted and form part of a notable regional ensemble. Their transitional type lies between Baroque pillar shrines and stone crosses. The cultural significance of the shrines therefore stems both from their Neoclassical design and from this distinctive classification; they offer a different perspective from the history of the chapel.
Woodland and Seasonal Cascade Ponds
The Úsušský remízek is a small wood surrounded by fields and designated as a significant landscape feature. This succinctly captures Úsuší’s landscape: a small woodland in a field setting. Pod Čudánkou, a significant landscape feature in the Tišnovsko region near Úsuší, is a separate site. Ten cascade ponds have been created there along a seasonal stream, and they hold water only at certain times. The seasonal nature of the water supply is explicit here; it should not be understood as a permanent feature of the ponds.
Hiking and Cycling
A green-marked hiking trail passes over the summit areas of Pasník and Loučský vrch on its way to Úsuší. These two summit areas are the trail’s specific landscape references. For cycling plans, distinguish this from the Deblín–Úsuší–Nelepeč–Žernůvka route: it is described as a challenging mountain biking route and runs along the Loučka River and the Závistka stream. The focus, then, is on two different types of route: a marked hiking connection on the one hand, and a mountain biking route described as challenging on the other.
Other cycling connections add to the picture. At Úsuší, one route reconnects with a marked cycling route and descends to Čížky. A marked cycling route also provides a shortcut from Úsuší to Nelepeč. Choosing a route therefore depends on more than just the destination: the mountain biking route described above and the marked shortcut have different roles in route planning.
Bus Travel
According to the timetable dated 24 August 2026, bus route 312 serves the Úsuší and Úsuší, Čížky stops. Check the current timetable before travelling. This lets you plan your bus connection separately from your choice of hiking trail or cycling route.
