Těšany brings together a baroque forge, a late Historicist church, a chapel steeped in history and a cycle route through the cadastral area. The town’s history offers a range of themes: crafts, religious architecture, remembrance of political prisoners and cycling. When planning your visit, it is worth keeping the access arrangements in mind: groups of ten or more can arrange forge tours at other times by prior agreement; Zámeček is not accessible.
The Kovárna: craftsmanship in its historical context
The Kovárna in Těšany is a baroque forge dating from 1700. This exceptionally well-preserved craft workshop building is connected to agricultural and residential buildings. This means the forge can be viewed as more than a single workshop space: its architectural complex also includes buildings used for economic purposes and as residences. Together, the year it was built, the workshop and its adjoining functions provide a clear picture of the varied layout of this building complex.
Groups of ten or more can arrange tours at other times by prior agreement. Please arrange your preferred tour in advance. Tour information is current as of 24 August 2026 and may change.
Church of Saint Barnabas
The Church of Saint Barnabas was solemnly consecrated on 12 June 1907. It is an outstanding, stylistically pure example of late Historicism and one of the municipality’s landmarks. The church currently has three bells, dedicated to Saint Barnabas, the Holy Family and Saint John the Baptist. Its architecture, consecration date and the dedications of its bells offer different perspectives on the church’s history and religious associations.
Chapel of the Virgin Mary
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary offers a different historical perspective. It was built in gratitude for the safe return of political prisoners from Těšany from concentration camps and consecrated on 13 June 1948. The chapel stands on a hill between Těšany and Borkovany and is the destination of regular pilgrimages in May. Thus, the reason for its remembrance and a recurring May event go hand in hand: the 1948 date places the consecration in its historical context, while the pilgrimages provide a seasonal point of reference for planning.
Zámeček: building history and access
The history of Zámeček dates back to the second half of the 17th century. At that time, Dominicans built a residence in Těšany, from which Zámeček later developed. The building is early Baroque and has one storey. It is privately owned and is not accessible. However, a large part of the building borders a publicly accessible footpath. The path is open to the public, but the building itself is not—an important distinction when planning your visit.

Cycling and planning your stay
Cycle route 5114 Těšany–Šaratice runs through the cadastral area of Těšany. This adds a specific cycling option to the themes of craftsmanship and architectural history. When planning, you can decide whether the forge, the church, the chapel and its regular May pilgrimages, or cycling should be the focus of your stay. When looking for a holiday apartment, this question can help you decide on the purpose of your trip first.
