Štěpánovice combines distinctive historic buildings with specific hiking and cycling options. The village lies on the Svratka River and is surrounded by the forested slopes of the peaks of Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. If you are choosing a destination based on culture, landscape and possible activities, these aspects can help guide your decision.

Chapels, a small monument and a former mill building

Historic landmarks in Štěpánovice include the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. There is also a Baroque Chapel of St Anne in the village. The dedications offer two specific points of reference in the history of sacred architecture: Cyril and Methodius on the one hand, and St Anne on the other. The Chapel of St Anne is Baroque; the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a historic landmark.

The Boží muka wayside shrine is among the protected cultural monuments. This red sandstone structure dates from 1706 and is an example of small-scale Baroque sacred architecture. Its material, date of construction and clear architectural classification all contribute to its significance. For the history of the village, it offers a different point of reference from the two chapels: a smaller sacred structure with a specific year of construction.

There is also a former mill building dating from 1843 in the centre. Its former purpose distinguishes it from the sacred buildings and adds another type of building use to the historic themes. The year 1843 provides a separate point of reference alongside the Boží muka wayside shrine of 1706. Together, these sites offer different points of interest if you are interested in architectural history: dedications, sacred architecture and a former mill building.

Hiking trails by starting point and route

For hiking plans, two types of route can be distinguished. A red-marked trail passes through Štěpánovice; blue- and yellow-marked trails start at the village railway station. When choosing a route, you can therefore consider whether you are looking for one that passes through Štěpánovice or one that starts at the station. The colours provide a specific way to identify the routes mentioned. As trail markings can change, check them before setting out.

Cycling routes and their specific features

The 23-kilometre Na Babylon cycling loop runs via Tišnov, Štěpánovice and Borač to the Babylon lookout tower, then continues to the Křivoš lookout tower, via Kaly, Dolní Loučky and Předklášteří, and back to Tišnov. The sequence of places makes the scope of the loop easy to follow: Štěpánovice is part of a named route connecting several places and both lookout towers. For your ride, you can use the full sequence and the distance to help plan your trip; route conditions may change.

Two additional section-specific features are relevant to the shorter cycling loop. The terrain on the Borač–Kaly section is suitable for mountain bikes. On the Štěpánovice–Podolí section, you can use the train. These tips address different planning considerations: the suitability of the terrain on one section and the option of taking the train on the other. If you plan to use this rail option, check current train services before your trip.

Štěpánovice therefore offers several ways to plan a trip: historic buildings with different dedications and dates, hiking trails with different starting points, and cycling routes with specific sections or a complete circular route. Which of these matters most to you depends on whether you want to focus on local history, hiking or cycling.
