Senorady brings together cultural history, exhibitions and nature themes with excursions that take varying amounts of time. Two local landmarks share the same year of construction, 1807; at the same time, the choice of excursions ranges from a nature trail with viewpoints to a several-hour tour covering three historic sites and following two rivers. When planning a stay, you can therefore distinguish between local history, nature and longer excursions rather than treating everything as a brief stop.

Cultural History and Exhibitions

The Senoradské krojované hody is one of the most popular regular cultural and social events in Senorady. As a recurring festival, it provides a reference point for planning your dates; if you want to plan your trip around it, check the specific event dates. Local buildings also offer a precise historical point of reference: the central bell tower is a valuable late Baroque monument dating from 1807, and the chapel on the village square was also built in 1807. A message made during a restoration in 1955 was found in the chapel's little tower.

The “Život na vsi” exhibition features agricultural and household tools. Exhibits include wooden wheelbarrow wheels and a mortar; an old wooden salt shaker dates from the 18th century. The Senorady e-museum covers the history of the municipality and its immediate surroundings, from the first settlement to the beginning of the 20th century. The “Keramika doby halštatské” exhibition offers a different way to explore its subject: it can be viewed using 3D glasses. These could be borrowed or purchased at the Senorady municipal office; check in advance whether this is still possible.

Nature and Landscape

Several hundred specimens of the greater pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) grow in the dry grasslands south of Senorady at Senoradský véhon. The Senoradská stezka offers a different nature experience: this nature trail runs through the Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice Nature Reserve and connects several viewpoints overlooking the Oslava Valley. The distinction is useful when choosing between these nature experiences: one focuses on a plant population in a precisely located area, while the other is a trail with several valley views.

Excursions and Practical Information

An excursion from Senorady leads to the Templštýn Castle ruins; the one-way walk takes approximately three hours. The “Přes tři hrady a dvě řeky” tour leads to the Kraví Hora Castle ruins, Levnov Castle and the Šance fortress. It crosses the Oslavka and Chvojnice rivers several times, is about twelve kilometers long and takes approximately four to six hours. The time estimates answer different planning questions: for Templštýn, the duration is for the one-way walk, while for the multi-castle tour, it is for the tour. Bear this in mind when planning how much time to allow for the excursions.

The municipal geocache is named Tvrz Senorady; check its current operating status before setting out to find it. On the way to the Oslava Valley, you can visit Senoradská kantýna. If you plan to stop there, check in advance whether it is currently open.
