Rajhradice can be explored through three distinct themes: the Chapel of Saint Scholastica, with its architectural and window history; well-preserved local traditions; and the landscape around Bajtlák Pond and the Habřina wetland. The view thus ranges from a single building to a tradition tied to a specific date and areas for walking and relaxation. When planning a stay, you can decide whether architectural history, a traditional celebration or time in nature should be the focus.

The Chapel of Saint Scholastica

The Chapel of Saint Scholastica is the only building in Czechia dedicated to this saint. It was built in 1896–97 at the community’s expense; a complete reconstruction followed in 2018. Since early 2020, six of the eight reconstructed and newly added stained-glass windows had been installed in the chapel’s window openings. The timeline distinguishes the original construction from the later work on the chapel and its windows.

Traditions and buildings

The Stanislavské hody tradition is observed in Rajhradice on 7 May. This date gives the tradition a specific place in the annual calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific event details in advance.

Individual buildings also have their own character: Boží muka is designated a cultural monument. The Rajhradice monastery barn was built in 1717 to a design by Jan Santini and is considered a prominent landmark of the community. The Loučská belfry is adorned with sculptures by woodcarver Jaroslav Buncek. Together, these places illustrate different aspects of the local cultural heritage: a designated monument, a barn with a known architectural history and a belfry with sculptural decoration.

Educational trail and archaeological history

Part of the Naučná stezka Rajhradsko educational trail passes through Rajhradice. At the trail by the Habřina wetland, an information board describes the Stráně nad Habřinou archaeological site. An extensive Slavic burial ground was excavated there, with a total of 239 graves examined. This adds an archaeological perspective to the architectural history and local traditions. For travelers interested in a place’s past, the connection between the trail, information board and research offers a distinct way to explore the area.

Bajtlák Pond and the Habřina wetland

Bajtlák Pond is in the Loučka district and is a place for relaxation. A sign on a path near the shore provides information about the history of the pond and the Loučka district. Fishing competitions are occasionally held at the pond. If you would like to combine a visit with a competition, check the specific dates in advance.

The Habřina wetland also serves as an area for walking and relaxation. Occasional swimming is possible there; check local conditions before swimming. An information board on the trail by Habřina draws attention to the Stráně nad Habřinou archaeological site, while the sign on the path near Bajtlák covers the history of the pond and Loučka. The two landscape themes are therefore distinct: Bajtlák focuses on the pond and the district’s history, while Habřina offers a walking area and archaeological information.

Choose a focus for your stay

For choosing a date, 7 May is the specific reference point for the Stanislavské hody. The chapel and architectural history, as well as the themes around Bajtlák and Habřina, offer different focuses from this tradition. If you are interested in architectural history, the chapel, monastery barn and belfry offer different points of interest; if you would rather plan for nature and relaxation, the pond and wetland take center stage. This distinction helps you tailor your stay to your chosen theme without combining the places or their histories into a single itinerary item.
