Předklášteří can be explored through several distinct interests: Porta coeli represents monastic life and architecture, the Podhorácké Museum offers exhibitions, and the nature monument, viewpoint and trails provide other ways to experience the landscape. When choosing a place to stay, it therefore helps to consider whether architecture, cultural history or a particular way of getting around is most important to you.

Porta coeli: Monastery and Architecture

Porta coeli is a 13th-century convent; a community of Cistercian nuns still lives there today. Its historical origins and present-day monastic life are both part of its character. Its defining architectural features include the richly decorated Gothic portal in the western gable of the Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the chapter house and the cloister. These terms distinguish the church building, the portal’s location and other named areas of the monastery: the basilica is classified as Romanesque-Gothic, while the portal is Gothic in design. For those interested in architecture, this offers two different scales to explore, from the overall building to its decorated details.

Museum and Local History

The Podhorácké Museum is housed in the former provost’s residence. It has four permanent exhibitions and numerous seasonal exhibitions; individual displays may change. Its exhibition programme therefore combines a permanent core with seasonal additions. If a particular seasonal exhibition is a deciding factor for you, check in advance whether it will be on display during your visit. Hradisko Čepička is also part of Předklášteří’s historical heritage. The area’s cultural attractions thus have different focuses: the monastic community and architecture, changing exhibition themes, and local history.

Květnice and Views of the Svratka Valley

The Květnice nature monument lies on the boundary between the cadastral areas of Předklášteří and Lomnička. Vokounova vyhlídka is on the blue-marked hiking trail through Předklášteří and offers views of the Svratka Valley and Květnice on the opposite side. These provide two different perspectives for exploring the landscape: Květnice is the named nature monument on a cadastral boundary, while the viewpoint brings the valley and the location of Květnice on the opposite side into view. When planning, you can decide whether to start with a protected-area destination or a specific viewpoint.

Cycle Route and Nature Trail

The routes also have clearly distinct purposes. The paved Tišnov–Trmačov cycle route connects Tišnov and Předklášteří and follows the EuroVelo 4 route. The Naučná stezka Předklášteří nature trail runs through the Deblín forest district. The cycle route is therefore more suited to a cycling connection between two places, while the nature trail offers a route through a forest district. You can choose according to what you are looking for, without treating the two routes as the same offering. Route conditions may change; check the current route before setting out on a specific cycling trip. When planning the nature trail, it is worth checking the signage and facilities, as both may change.
