Hiking Trails and Nature

Omice brings together several different points of interest to consider when planning a trip: a yellow-marked hiking trail starting at the railway station, the Bučín educational trail with its nature and history themes, and evidence of medieval architecture. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up whether a route, interpretive landscape features, or historical architectural and archaeological remains matter most to you. This lets you consider the different features without turning them into a fixed itinerary for the day.

A yellow-marked hiking trail starts at Omice railway station and passes over the summit of Tmavý žlíbek and by Bučín, heading towards Rosice. The starting point, trail markings and several points along the route are clearly identified. If this hike suits your interests, you can use the waypoints for guidance and check the current trail markings before setting out. This makes it possible to distinguish between the route and the educational trail in your planning, based on their described features.

Bobrava Nature Park is located within the cadastral area of Omice. The Bučín educational trail near Omice passes through the nature park and the Bučín forest area, where deciduous forests of oak, beech and hornbeam predominate. This describes both the landscape and the composition of the forest in concrete terms. The educational trail combines these nature themes with historical information.

Buildings and Historical Traces

The Church of St James the Greater in Omice is a Romanesque building, constructed around the 12th century or, at the latest, at the beginning of the 13th century. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 29182/7-858. The archaeological remains of the medieval fortress of Omice provide another historical trace. They include stone foundations more than one metre thick. The church is therefore described in terms of its architectural style and approximate construction date, while the fortress is described through its archaeological foundations and their thickness.

The Bučín educational trail adds information about former roads and an inn to this history of buildings and the fortress. It provides information about the remains of an old inn on the highway, which was burned down during the Thirty Years' War. The trail also covers a medieval trade route that ran through the forests from Brno to Ivančice. The two references illustrate different scales: the inn was a single location on a highway, while the trade route ran through forests from Brno to Ivančice. The trail's historical themes thus range from a former inn to a regional thoroughfare.
