Modřice combines precisely dated architectural and art history with named trails and landscapes. This makes it possible to explore the town from different perspectives: through small wayside shrines and historic buildings, as well as along the trails in the Bobrava Valley. Its cultural heritage and nature-related features offer distinct themes for a stay.

Wayside Shrines, Church and Chapel

The wayside shrine Boží muka bears a dedicatory inscription dated 1604. Its south-facing niche features a relief of the Crucifixion, with Mary Magdalene kneeling at the foot of the cross. The combination of a precise date and a specific image offers a focused introduction to the town’s religious art history.

Southwest of Modřice, at the cadastral boundary on the road to Želešice, stands a brick wayside shrine with a rectangular ground plan. Here, its location, masonry and shape are the key points of reference. Its precise position in relation to the cadastral boundary and the road is part of the description, as is the rectangular structure.

The Church of sv. Gottharda adds a much older architectural history: its Romanesque core dates from around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. The Chapel of sv. Václava provides a later historical reference point. It is Neo-Baroque and was built in 1917–1918 as a memorial to the citizens of Modřice who fell in the First World War. Inside is a relief of Saint Wenceslas from 1945 by Heřman and Karel Kotrba. Together, the two sites bring a Romanesque building element into conversation with a later memorial work.

The Muzeum města Modřice is located at Komenského 397, 664 42 Modřice. Its address adds a specific point of reference for planning a visit to the historic buildings.

Trails and Landscapes in the Bobrava Area

In Modřice, the Brněnská vinařská stezka runs along Tyršova Street, through the CTP site and onward to the Bobrava. As routes may change, check the current route before setting out. The sections named here clearly connect the route with Modřice and the Bobrava.

Another named trail is the Naučná stezka přírodním parkem Bobrava nature trail. It runs through Modřice’s cadastral area in the Bobrava Valley. For orientation, it is useful to distinguish between the information about the two trails: the local route and individual sections are specified for the Brněnská vinařská stezka, while the nature trail is described in terms of its location in the Bobrava Valley and Modřice’s cadastral area. The two names therefore offer different geographical points of reference.

Modřické rameno is a separate landscape feature: this Site of European Importance has the designation CZ 0620010. Only activities that do not harm this significant ecosystem are permitted in its surroundings. Its protected status therefore sets a specific framework for activities in the area. Together, the town’s building history, named trails and landscape protection offer several themes to help you get to know Modřice during your stay.
