Lubné lies at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. If you want to combine nature with local history, you’ll find two distinct highlights here: the streams and hiking trails in the surrounding area, and the chapels, cultural sites and local traditions. This helps with planning your trip, as a hike through the valley calls for different preparations than a visit timed to a particular event.

Streams and Scenery Around Lubné

The Halda stream runs along the eastern edge of Lubné’s cadastral area. At Kutiny, it joins the Libochůvka from the right. The Lubenský potok also flows through Lubné towards Kutiny. Part of the Kutiny settlement belongs to Lubné; it is considered a popular destination for tourism and recreation. The valleys of the Halda and Libochůvka are nearby. They converge at Kutiny and are considered a popular destination for hitchhikers and hikers.

In a deep gorge nearby is a protected area of a natural monument locally known as “Lubenský prales” (Lubné Primeval Forest). It adds another landscape feature to the streams and valleys. The different names help you make sense of the area: the Halda and Libochůvka meet at Kutiny, while the Lubenský potok flows from Lubné towards Kutiny.

Planning a Hike in the Halda Valley

The route through the Halda Valley between the Níhov railway stop and Kutiny is about five kilometres long. Along the way, you’ll often need to cross the stream, as there are generally no footbridges. Conditions can change with the weather; check locally on the state of the path before your hike.

A route description last updated in 2007 also mentions a green-marked hiking trail through Lubné: it runs from Tišnov through the Libochůvka Valley and the recreation area by Níhovský rybník to Velká Bíteš. Check the current trail markings before relying on this route. The Níhov railway stop is recommended as a suitable starting point for an excursion into the Halda Valley; check train services in advance, too.

Lubné is regularly served by the Tišnov–Velká Bíteš bus route. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable before your trip. Train and bus connections require separate planning: the Níhov railway stop is named as a starting point for the Halda Valley, while the bus route serves Lubné.

Chapel, Cultural Centre and Traces of History

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, built in 1885, stands on Lubné’s southeastern slope. A traditional pilgrimage Mass is celebrated at the chapel every May; check locally for the exact date. Lubné’s cultural centre is housed in a wooden building relocated from Kutiny. During the war, the building was part of a forced labour camp—both its present-day use and its earlier history are part of the village’s character.

There are also notable cultural sites towards the neighbouring villages: in the direction of Níhov is the spring of St Giles, with a statue of its patron saint. Towards Rojetín are a stone Stations of the Cross with a glass cross, and a statue of St Zdislava. Worked flint stones and pottery shards were found in Borky, a former mill and outlying settlement of Lubné.

Traditions and Dates

Local customs include decorating Christmas trees together; the date may vary. The so-called creative Fridays take place on the first Friday of each month. If you’d like to take part, check the details locally. The band Listověj has also performed in Lubné several times, but no regular future date has been established.

For hikes in the Halda Valley, the main considerations are the condition of the path and stream crossings. For local events, the specific date matters instead. This distinction makes planning easier: shape your getaway around whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors or attend a particular cultural event.
