A 1.5-kilometre section of off-road cycle path, a location between two rivers and traces of several centuries give Žabčice concrete points to consider when planning a trip. If you are considering the town as a possible place to stay overnight, you can weigh up whether cycling, scenery or history will be the deciding factor in your choice.

Cycling route and rail connections

The long-distance cycling route No. 5, the Jantarová stezka, passes through Žabčice. Its route through the town is 2.5 kilometres long. A 1.5-kilometre section of this route runs off-road on a dedicated cycle path. The two figures answer different planning questions: 2.5 kilometres refers to the length of the Jantarová stezka in Žabčice, while 1.5 kilometres is the off-road section. This makes it possible to assess the local route more precisely than by the route number alone.

Žabčice railway station is part of the IDS JMK integrated transport system and lies on line 251, on the Tišnov–Brno–Hustopeče u Brna and Hrušovany u Brna–Židlochovice connections. Check the timetable for your travel date, as routes and operating details may change.

River landscape and Klučiny

Žabčice lies in the Dyjsko-Svratecká Lowland between the Svratka and Šatava rivers. There are two registered significant landscape features in Žabčice; VKP Klučiny is one of them. The landscape feature includes wooded areas covering 3.87 hectares around the former sports ground and Jezírko. During the revitalisation of the Šatava in 1999–2000, ponds were created in the Klučiny locality. The river names place Žabčice in its wider setting; Klučiny adds a more specific view of wooded areas and a past project on the Šatava.

Medieval traces and cultural monuments

The Kulatý kopec fortification was built around the middle of the 13th century and fell into disrepair around 1425. It is a motte in the form of a truncated cone; a ditch is visible, and the outer rampart is partly preserved. This places an approximate medieval chronology alongside specific terrain features. Vegetation and visible terrain features may change.

The abandoned medieval settlement of Koválov is also part of this historical picture. A church and a medieval cemetery have been documented there.

The large granary on the Žabčice farmstead was built in 1713 and is still used for various purposes today. The Chapel of Saint Lawrence in the centre of Žabčice was built in 1883. Boží muka is a significant cultural monument in Žabčice. Taken together, the fortification, granary and chapel can be distinguished by period: medieval history is followed by the construction year 1713 and the chapel of 1883; Boží muka adds another historical point of interest as a significant cultural monument.
