Doubravník offers several perspectives for planning your trip: architectural and local history, including the Late Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross; Educational Trail III, which connects Pernštejn Castle with the town; and protected countryside. There is also the wooden bridge in Prudká and recurring cultural events. This gives you the opportunity to decide whether to plan your visit mainly around architecture and local culture, or around trails and the natural surroundings.

Church and Local History

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Late Gothic, three-aisled hall church. It was built between 1535 and 1557. Notable features include a Renaissance pulpit and a rare Baroque organ by Jan Výmola, dating from 1760. To visit the church, you must book in advance by calling 604 311 817.

The historic centre of Doubravník is designated an urban heritage zone and lies on the banks of the Svratka. Two smaller buildings also tell the story of the town: the Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene on Bozinka was built in 1692. The protected Mitrovský crypt contains 19 cast-iron sarcophagi.

Traditions and Cultural Events

Doubravnické hody is a long-standing traditional festival held regularly on the Sunday of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The dates vary from year to year, and individual events in the programme may also change. The festival includes a procession in traditional dress, a maypole ceremony, the ortel ritual, and dancing beneath the maypole. If you are planning your visit around this event, check the date for the relevant year.

Several times a year, Galerie z ruky in Křížovice, a district of Doubravník, hosts major cultural events. Dates and programmes there also vary. Pivovar Doubravník operates a bar at its premises in Doubravník. As opening hours may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

Trails, Landscape and Getting Around

Educational Trail III runs from Pernštejn Castle via Sejřek to Doubravník along a green-marked route. It connects the castle with the town; check current trail conditions before setting out. Another named route is the international Cyril and Methodius Trail: a 72-kilometre section runs from Ronov near Přibyslav to Doubravník. The two descriptions answer different questions: Educational Trail III connects specific places, while the Cyril and Methodius Trail is described by a longer section and its endpoints.

A viewpoint above the railway stop can be reached via a short uphill climb. For a different perspective on the landscape, the Sokolí skála Nature Reserve is within the Doubravník area, near the settlement of Prudká. Doubravnicko is also part of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park.

In Prudká, a covered wooden footbridge is reserved for pedestrians and forms part of the Prague–Vienna international cycle route in the EuroVelo network. Master carpenter Jan Nejez of Železné built it in 1899 for workers at the nearby C. M. Kopřiva paper mill. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1994. Check current crossing conditions before setting out.

A brochure with a map of the educational trails is available at the tourist information centre beside the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, at house number 32. It offers practical guidance for planning your routes, while your choice between local history, festival dates and trails will determine the focus of your stay in Doubravník.
