Česká brings together natural attractions and a rich local history. The Ponávka Valley is home to ponds, wetlands and a marked health trail; the town’s history also includes a stone bell tower, a cross and a memorial. As you plan your trip, you can consider whether to focus your stay on the landscape or on local cultural sites.

Landscape and trails around Česká

Česká is located in the Bobravská vrchovina, more specifically in the Řečkovicko-kuřimský prolom subregion. Natural features can be found along several edges of the cadastral area: the Šiberná Natural Monument lies on its northern boundary. To the west, the wooded ridge of Kuřimská hora forms the boundary; it is part of Baba Nature Park. On the eastern edge lies the Ponávka Valley, with a cascade of several ponds. These three locations help you place the natural attractions in context according to where they are, rather than viewing them as a single spot.

The marked Stezka zdraví health trail runs through the Ponávka Valley. Information boards line the trail. The valley is also home to wetlands with numerous marsh plants. This landscape therefore offers several specific ways to explore it: the trail, the cascade of ponds and the distinctive vegetation of the wetlands.

Baba Nature Park is also relevant to understanding the landscape. It is near Česká, and its hilly terrain is suitable for relaxation and active leisure. A tourist route between Kuřim and Bystrc passes through the nature park. If you include this route in your plans, you can consider it as a separate option; this does not assume that it connects to the other trails mentioned.

Bell tower, cross and memorial

The stone bell tower in Česká was built at the end of the 18th century. Its bell was cast in 1813 and brought from Brno. A chapel was added to the bell tower in 1902. The different dates place the bell, the building and its later addition in chronological context, giving the site a distinctive historical connection.

Another stone landmark stands at the junction of the roads to Lelekovice: the cross was erected by the municipality of Cinsendorf in 1883. The memorial in Česká to the victims of the First and Second World Wars was erected in 1921. Together with the bell tower, these sites provide distinct historical points of reference in the local landscape.

Events and planning your stay

The local events calendar includes Hody, held in Česká every year. Pálení čarodějnic, also held in Česká, is particularly popular with children. Pohádkový les takes place to mark Children’s Day. Dates and programmes may vary from year to year; if you plan to attend one of these festivities, check the date and programme for your travel year. The local Čedivadlo is also growing in popularity.

When choosing accommodation, it can help to decide on your daily plans first: Would you like to set aside time for the health trail and the Ponávka Valley, focus on historical sites, or plan your stay around an event? Česká is connected to Brno by MHD line 304. As the municipality updates its transport information, check the latest timetable before travelling. This will help you include nature, local history and a potential event date in your plans for your stay.
