Discover Blučina from two perspectives: Výhon defines its natural landscape, while the church, Baroque sculptures and local traditions offer specific points of interest for culture enthusiasts.

Landscape and nature at Výhon

The Výhon Nature Park covers about 1,700 hectares of the entire Výhon Massif in the South Moravian Region. It lies within the cadastral areas of Blučina, Židlochovice and Nosislav, so the park is not limited to Blučina alone. On the steep slopes, vineyards, intensively and extensively managed orchards, fields and gardens alternate with grassy strips along paths and steppe grasslands. This mix of different land uses and vegetation types shapes the character of the landscape.

The Nové hory Natural Monument near Blučina protects remnants of broad-leaved dry grasslands; orchids grow in some places. There are also numerous other specially protected and rare plant and animal species. While the nature park encompasses the landscape mosaic of the massif, Nové hory focuses on a particular habitat and its species.

Since 2009, the summit of Výhon has been crowned by Akátová věž, a wooden observation tower just under 18 metres tall. As a single structure, it adds an architectural point of interest on the summit to the nature-focused attractions. Its height, material and year of construction clearly identify the tower without conflating it with the protected areas and habitats.

Blučiňák: natural swimming area and waterside zones

The Blučiňák pond includes a natural swimming area as well as wetland and littoral zones. This means that the swimming area and the wetland and waterside areas are found alongside one another at the same body of water. Unlike the dry grasslands at Výhon, water and the shore are the main focus here. The best way to reach the pond is via the cycle path from the indoor swimming pool in Blučina.

Church and Baroque sculptures

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a protected cultural monument. It has three naves and a five-sided chancel. The term “three-nave” describes the division of the building into three naves; the five-sided chancel describes the shape of the choir’s end. The church can therefore be identified more precisely by its structure and floor plan.

The Baroque Marian Column was erected around 1720. It bears statues of Saint Barbara, Saint Florian and Saint John of Nepomuk. Boží muka is a three-sided Baroque wayside shrine dating from the first half of the 18th century. Both works belong to the Baroque period, but differ in form: the Marian Column is defined by its statues of saints, while Boží muka is distinguished by its three-sided shape. Their dates also differ in precision: the column has an approximate date, while a time period is given for the shrine.

Music and local traditions

Music and customs also contribute to Blučina’s cultural identity. The brass band BLUČIŇÁCI was founded in 1920 by brothers Rudolf and František Kratochvíl. The Blučinské hody festival continues to be celebrated in the municipality in its original form. Alongside the buildings, these traditions reflect both a music history with a specific date and a local custom that continues to this day.
