A blacksmith’s forge built around 1770, memorial plaques offering glimpses into local history, and a Biocentrum reveal different sides of Blažovice. During your stay, you can choose between cultural and historical sights, nature and activities.

Blacksmithing Traditions and the Estate Farm

The Blažovická kovárna was built around 1770. After the Velvet Revolution, it resumed operation under a locksmith’s licence; it was run by the sixth and seventh generations of the Kašpařík family in Blažovice. The history of the forge thus brings together an 18th-century building and a craft tradition revived at a later date.

The memorial stone plaques also tell the story of an estate farm. The oldest reports that it burned down completely on 17 August 1604 and was rebuilt in 1607. The plaques also document its connection with the Dominican convent near St. Anne’s: the estate farm belonged to the convent. Local history therefore spans monastic ownership and recorded events of the 17th century through to the more recent blacksmithing tradition.

Church, Art and Remembrance

The Church of Kostel Nejsvětějšího Srdce Ježíšova was consecrated on 10 June 1934 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Its current Stations of the Cross were painted in 1954 by local painter Rudolf Paulík. The church’s consecration and dedication establish its religious significance; the Stations of the Cross add a work of art created later.

The sculpture “Setkání” by sculptor Mgr. Daniel Klose stands at the northern entrance to the village. The work consists of four wooden pylons. In the Blažovická zvonice, two memorial plaques commemorate fallen French soldiers and their commanders, Pierre Castex and Colonel Jean Pierre Morland.

The wayside shrine Boží muka pod Starými vinohrady commemorates the victims of the Battle of Austerlitz and the suffering of residents of the surrounding villages. The new memorial column was unveiled on 2 December 1992 on the southern edge of the cadastral area of Blažovice, at the crossroads of the roads from Prace to Křenovice and from Blažovice to Zbýšov. Together with the memorial plaques, it reflects different forms of remembrance: of individuals, the battle and the history of the estate farm.

Biocentrum, Nature Trail and Activities

The Biocentrum contains a pond depression planted with aquatic plants, which serves as a breeding site for protected amphibian species. The Biocentrum as a whole is ideal for relaxing Sunday walks and also features an information board for the Bitvy tří císařů nature trail. The natural area and the memory of the battle are presented here as distinct themes.

The Bitva tří císařů nature trail includes the PS6 Blažovice–Jiříkovice section. This is associated with the decisive attack by French troops on Pratecké návrší and Staré vinohrady during the Battle of Austerlitz. The 31-kilometre “Po slavkovském bojišti I” route also passes through Blažovice, among other places. It offers a further context in which to place the village.

For some active fun, there is a pump track with an asphalt surface for riding a bicycle or scooter, as well as a skill zone where you can improve your bike handling and riding technique. The pump track is freely accessible; check the local operating rules before your visit. By comparison, the Biocentrum combines a walk with a habitat for protected amphibians, while the nature trail focuses on history.

Blažovice in Context

The forge, church, works of art and memorial sites give Blažovice a strong cultural and historical focus. The Biocentrum and pump track offer different emphases: nature and activity. When planning your stay, you can decide first whether you want to focus on local history, nature or an activity. Each theme offers a different starting point, without implying a particular walking route or fixed visit duration.
