There are two main ways to experience Veselíčko: explore its cultural history through the castle and chapels, or get active on the Hraběnčina Educational Trail. The castle can be visited by prior arrangement; the trail can be used on foot, by bicycle and, in winter, on cross-country skis. You can decide which aspect interests you more based on the specific details at each location.

Castle and garden: two points in time

The castle acquired its late Baroque appearance in 1769, under the Fulnek master builder Thalherr. The four-hectare castle park and garden in Veselíčko were reconstructed in 2010–2011. These dates refer to different events: 1769 marks the castle’s appearance, while 2010–2011 marks the reconstruction of the park and garden. Keeping these time periods distinct helps place the late Baroque architectural history and the later reconstruction in context. Visiting the castle requires prior arrangement, so be sure to organize your visit in advance.

Chapels and historical connections

The Chapel of St. John in Vicinov is thought to be the oldest of the three chapels in Veselíčko. It contains a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The Chapel of St. Francis Paluánský contains rare frescoes, although they are deteriorating. These two chapels therefore offer different specific points of interest: the presumed age and statue in one, and the condition of the frescoes in the other.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on Zámecký vrch is located by the former schoolyard. May devotions are still held at the chapel in May. If you would like to include one in your trip, check the dates locally in advance. The month is relevant for planning, while the location by the former schoolyard offers a separate point of reference.

The Vlčince archaeological site in Veselíčko is also associated with the Bell Beaker culture. This archaeological connection adds another perspective to the castle’s history and the religious sites. The cultural points of interest are therefore quite distinct: late Baroque architectural history, chapels with a statue and frescoes, May devotions, and an archaeological connection.

Trail and landscape

The Hraběnčina Educational Trail can be used on foot, by bicycle and, in winter, on cross-country skis. The activities also vary by season: cross-country skiing is specifically mentioned for winter, while walking and cycling are also possible. One of the trail’s stops is Tři rybníky, a frequently visited place in Veselíčko.

Another specific landscape feature is the gorge by the Lukavec reservoir: it is about 100 metres long. These are two different kinds of information: the Hraběnčina Educational Trail has stated ways to explore it and a named stop, while the gorge has an approximate length. You can therefore consider the trail and this landscape feature as distinct aspects of Veselíčko.

Planning around specific conditions

The travel advice varies: the castle requires prior arrangement, the May devotions take place in a specific month, and cross-country skiing is listed as a winter activity on the trail. Plan for these separately: arrange your castle visit in advance, check the dates of the May devotions locally, and take the season into account when choosing your route.
