Radkova Lhota lies on the right bank of the Radkovy, also known as the Blazický potok. Its agricultural past, surviving traces in the field landscape and village buildings give the place several distinct facets. Nearby is Dřevohostický les, with a nature trail; the Moštěnka riding trail also leads to Radkova Lhota. You can get to know this destination through both its village history and the paths and landscapes in its surroundings.

Fields and Designed Nature

Radkova Lhota lies in a sugar beet-growing region and was once known for its fruit growing. Fruit trees and a well still stand in the middle of the fields at the former site of Na Větřáku. These surviving features point to the former windmill site and connect the agricultural past with the landscape as it is today.

The development of the water features and wooded areas can also be traced through several dates: In 2000, a one-hectare body of water was created; the water is five metres deep at the dam. In 2001, additional areas of the forest park were planted, covering a total of 0.75 hectares. A year later, in 2003, another pond was added and the forest was expanded. In 2004, two field paths were repaired, 130 fruit trees were planted and two wooded field strips were established. Water features, planting and path maintenance illustrate different aspects of local landscape design.

Forest Nature Trail and Riding Trail

Near Radkova Lhota, the 310-hectare Dřevohostický les stretches between Dřevohostice, Radkova Lhota, Bezuchov and Hradčany. The forest is a Natura 2000 European protected site. A seven-kilometre nature trail runs through it. If you plan to walk it, check the trail conditions before your visit.

The Moštěnka riding trail offers a different perspective. It follows a field path alongside an avenue of plum trees to Radkova Lhota. The red-marked main route ends beyond the village at the racecourse of JK Radkova Lhota, where there is a rest area. Jezdecký klub Radkova Lhota is active in Radkova Lhota. If you are looking for a specific offering from the club, check its availability before your trip. The forest nature trail and the riding trail are two distinct options to consider when planning; local trail conditions may change.

Buildings and Village History

A bell tower stands at house number 15 in the village. It was built in 1929 to replace an older bell tower. At the road entrance from Radkov to Radkova Lhota stands a wayside shrine dating from the 18th century. These two buildings offer different historical points of interest: the bell tower has a specific construction date, while the shrine is dated to a particular century.

Radkova Lhota Castle stands on the former isolated farmstead of Lhotsko. Historically, it was a hunting and recreational chateau with an extensive park; it was later converted for a specific purpose, as a retirement home. Another part of the village’s history is the watermill that once stood at the lower edge of the village green, near house number 6. It was located on a millrace to the right of the Moštěnka River; the drop in the water level was apparently slight. The mill building and millrace are no longer there. The castle, wayside shrine, bell tower and historic mill site thus offer different ways to explore the village’s history.
