Polom U Hranic combines a local pond system with clearly distinguishable traces of cultural history. The Chapel of St Catherine, with its Baroque organs, the medieval connection to the Amber Road, and the more recent ParÄŤĂk Republiky offer different perspectives on the town. If you are looking for accommodation, you can start by considering whether culture, landscape or a cycling-related stay will shape your visit.

Ponds and an Orchard Avenue

The local pond system comprises Horní Polom, Dolní Polom and Sádka. The three names give the landscape theme concrete contours and set it apart from the stories of historic buildings and the town. Another landscape feature is Cestička k lesu: the orchard avenue, created with public participation, leads towards Lučice. It complements the named ponds with a designed landscape feature of fruit trees and a clear direction. This offers a different perspective on Polom’s landscape than a list of individual cultural monuments.

Chapel, Cross and Local History

The Chapel of St Catherine dates from 1846. It has Baroque organs from the workshop of Johann Neusser; a cross dating from 1852 stands beside the chapel. The chapel connects architectural history with a specific link to music, while the cross provides a distinct historical marker alongside it. The Cihelny Polom complex, with its original historic round kiln, is part of the industrial heritage. Another layer of local history is revealed by the hereditary bailiff of Polom, who protected the so-called Amber Road in the Middle Ages. The organs, cross, round kiln and Amber Road represent different approaches to cultural history: sacred furnishings, a memorial marker, industrial history and a medieval protective role. The years 1846 and 1852 provide fixed points in time; the story of the bailiff goes further back to the Middle Ages. This makes it possible to distinguish between specific construction dates and an older protective role.

ParÄŤĂk Republiky as a Cycling Stop

Parčík Republiky, created in 2018, is circular in layout. At its centre is a monument commemorating the founding of Czechoslovakia. Benches, a pergola, an orchard avenue and a drinking-water point are among its amenities; the park often serves as a stop for cyclists. Remembrance and everyday use sit side by side here: the monument refers to a historical event, while the amenities and use as a cycling stop define the park’s public character.

Getting Here and Accommodation

Polom railway station is on line 271. Access to the station building and the station’s weather shelter is step-free. Check the current timetable before travelling, as train services may change.

A simple priority can help when choosing accommodation: would you like your stay to be shaped more by culture and local history, or by the landscape and public spaces? Polom offers concrete points of interest for both. You can start your search for a holiday apartment based on the focus of your visit, then compare suitable options against your own travel plans.
