Dolní Újezd lies at the foot of the Oderské vrchy, in the valley of the Moravian Gate. The municipality offers practical starting points for planning your stay: cycling and hiking trails, a sports facility, local history and traditions. This lets you decide whether to spend your time outdoors, taking part in sports, or exploring historical and seasonal sights.
Trails and Accessibility
Cycling Route No. 6058 passes through Dolní Újezd and connects to the Amber Route. Several marked hiking trails also pass through the municipality. The activities differ in terms of navigation: for cycling, the numbered route and its connection are the specific points of reference, while for hiking, it is the marked trails. The forests of the Oderské vrchy on the edge of Dolní Újezd are only partly accessible, as they belong to the Libavá Military Training Area. Bear this restriction in mind if you plan to visit forest areas.
Local History
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Gall was built between 1846 and 1849 on the site of an earlier small church dating from 1775. The sequence of construction links the older church with the later building on the same site. From around 1824, a chapel dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk stood on what later became the village square. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands beside Farmhouse No. 17. In 1905, a chapel in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows was built on the village square. The church, chapels and monument offer different historical perspectives: the history of church construction, religious dedications and remembrance of the fallen.
Sports Facility
The freely accessible sports facility in Dolní Újezd has a traffic training area and a children's corner with a sandbox. A multipurpose court can also be rented for a single use or with a season ticket. The court is suitable for tennis, volleyball, football tennis, small-sided football, floorball and basketball. The freely accessible facility includes the traffic training area and children's corner; the multipurpose court is available for either a one-off rental or a season ticket. If you have a particular sport in mind, you can check whether it is offered at the court.
Traditions and Events
A Hubertus Mass is regularly held in Dolní Újezd in November. The raising and felling of the maypole are among the local traditions that have been preserved; the felling takes place in early June and is combined with a children's day. The Bear Parade is regularly held in Staměřice. The Hubertus Mass in November and the maypole felling in early June therefore take place at different times of the year. If you want to plan your visit around an event, check the exact dates locally in advance. The traditions take place in different locations: the Hubertus Mass and maypole traditions are held in Dolní Újezd, while the Bear Parade takes place in Staměřice; be sure to note the venue for each event.
