The broad, elongated village green defines the appearance of Křenovice; the Church of St. John of Nepomuk is its dominant landmark. Anyone wishing to get to know the village through its culture and history will find several different perspectives: architectural history, religious sites and landscape features.

Church, Village Green and Architectural History

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk was built in 1887–1888 in the Neo-Gothic style on the site of an earlier chapel. Its furnishings are also Neo-Gothic and date from the time of construction. The style and period of construction can be considered together here, while the earlier chapel is part of the church’s history as its predecessor.

The family crypt of the Vožď family in Křenovice cemetery offers another perspective on architectural history. It is shaped like a chapel and designed in the modern style of the 19th century. Hradisko u Křenovic, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Přerov District, is also part of the area’s cultural history. The range of points of interest thus extends beyond village architecture to include both buildings and a significant archaeological site.

Chapels and Religious Sites

The Chapel of St. Anne on Koráb was built in 1832 in gratitude for the end of a cholera epidemic. Its history connects the site with a specific historical event. Another small place of worship is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace. It is located in the countryside in the municipality of Křenovice near Kojetín and is associated with the message delivered in Medjugorje. The two chapels thus represent different religious connections: St. Anne’s commemorates the local end of the epidemic, while the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary is linked to the Medjugorje message.

Landscape and Springs

The nature biocentre near the Chapel of St. Anne includes two springs that flow to the surface. Adjacent to the biocentre is an area locally known as Skaly. Another landscape feature is the Křenovské louky meadows, a registered significant landscape element within the ecological ÚSES network. These features offer nature lovers different points of interest: springs and a named adjoining area on the one hand, and a registered landscape element on the other.

Events and Practical Information

A regular prayer service of the Marian Večeřadlo takes place at 4 p.m. in the Church of St. John of Nepomuk on the first Saturday of each month. If you would like to plan around this event, check the events calendar before your trip. This lets you take the recurring prayer service into account when planning your stay without making your visit depend on it alone.

There is also an important note about the water from the spring near the Chapel of St. Anne: laboratory analyses from summer 2016 classified it as non-potable. Do not drink it without current confirmation. The springs are part of the landscape described here; whether the water is safe to drink is a separate practical consideration.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Křenovice, you can first decide whether architectural history, religious sites or the countryside should shape your stay. This will help you choose a destination based on the things you actually want to discover.
