Kladníky can be explored through three distinct highlights: the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, the history of the former wooden windmill and the Záhorská cycling route, which passes through the village. This lets you plan your stay with a focus on cultural history or a cycling tour. Its location on the Šišemka River and by the Maleník Massif adds to the geographical setting.

Location between a river valley and a massif

Kladníky lies in the valley of the Šišemka River and on the southeastern slopes of the Maleník Massif. The river valley and the hillside setting are two distinct geographical reference points for the village. If you are interested in its history, you can connect this landscape setting with the specific historical sites in the village.

Chapel and religious monuments

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1925 on the site of a bell tower that had been erected in 1848. The chapel was consecrated on 13 September 1925. Its construction and consecration therefore took place in the same year, while the bell tower had already stood at the site. A memorial plaque at the chapel commemorates those who fell in the First World War. A statue of Saint Anthony stands beside it.

Other religious monuments can be distinguished by their direction from the edge of the village: a statue of Jesus Christ stands at the exit towards Hlinsko, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk towards Lhota. A wooden cross is located towards Bezuchov and Šišma. By the former windmill stands a statue of Our Lady of Hostýn. These location details help distinguish the various monuments rather than grouping them together as a single chapel visit.

The history of the former windmill

The former wooden windmill dates from 1829. Its interior was transferred to the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in 1983. The mill’s framework was completely destroyed due to inadequate maintenance. The windmill was protected as an immovable cultural monument from 3 May 1958 to 28 August 2008; it is no longer protected. The construction date, transfer of the interior and end of monument protection refer to different aspects of its history.

Fortress and local history

The history of Kladníky dates back to the second half of the 14th century. A local fortress fell into ruin during the Thirty Years’ War. Its presumed location, which has not been confirmed archaeologically, is in the northern part of the village near houses No. 4 and 5. The site was formerly called “Zámčisko”. The traditional place name and the uncertainty about the fortress’s location go together: the name refers to the site, while its exact identification remains a presumption.

The Záhorská cycling route

The Záhorská cycling route is a circular route from Lipník nad Bečvou through Kladníky and is approximately 39 kilometres long. It is particularly suitable for trekking bikes. The length and recommended type of bicycle provide two specific points to help plan your ride: the distance of the loop and the bicycle category that is particularly suitable for it. Route descriptions and signage may change, so check the current route before setting off.
