Citov combines a historic townscape with the landscape along the Morávka. The château park, local history, and two routes with different focuses offer you a variety of ways to enjoy your stay: from information boards to exercise stations with puzzles.
Landscape and château grounds
Citov lies in the flat, fertile landscape of the Haná, about 10 km west of Přerov, on the left bank of a branch of the river called the Morávka. The Hrubý floodplain forest lies in the western part of Citov. The Morávka winds in meanders along the edge of the forest. The river and floodplain forest are therefore as much a part of the townscape as the château grounds.
The Empire-style château was completed in 1845 as the residence of Tobiáš Pauspertl von Drachenthal. Its distinctive details include richly decorated ceiling paintings in delicate pastel shades. A landscaped park surrounds the château and is used for cultural and social events. The park is open to the public year-round; its restored eastern, western, and southern areas are accessible to visitors and cyclists.
In front of the château stands a romanticized statue of a girl from the late 19th century, which is listed as an immovable cultural monument. The water mill in Citov dates back to 1739 and is one of the oldest mills in Moravia. The parish church of Saint George also tells the story of the town: it was renovated in 1735 and later enlarged with an extension behind the altar.
Two routes with different focuses
The educational trail is a 1.2 km walking route with five information-board stops. It runs from the Citov château building to a low weir on the Morávka watercourse, beyond the mill. The stops cover the château grounds and park, the Church of Saint George, and a municipal residential building built after the severe floods of 1997. The water mill, its millrace, and the low weir are also among the topics. The weir protects the municipality from flooding.
The FIT trail lies outside the municipality and has seven stations along a route about 700 m long. It follows a paved road beside the historic mill and millrace to the low weir. Part of it runs along an older, stony section of a farm track in the direction of Odpadník. The stations feature exercise instructions, illustrations, information, puzzles for children, and QR codes linking to instructional videos. The trail is easily accessible to visitors.
The two routes differ not only in length and number of stations: the educational trail presents local history and flood protection, while the FIT trail focuses on exercises, information, and puzzles. For cycling, a route runs from Citov through Císařov to Rokytnice.
Traditions and events
The traditional Masopustní vodění medvěda event includes ritual stops, a dance celebration, and the ceremony of the burial of the double bass. The Hodové slavnosti include a church service, rides for children, and, above all, family gatherings. Both events have a different focus from the attractions around the château and trails: here, community life takes center stage.
The annual Pohádková cesta Hrubým lesem is an outdoor event for children. It uses the forest and field paths behind Citov and takes place before the summer holidays. Odemykání Morávky is also a recurring event; it takes place at the mill beside the Morávka watercourse.
Getting there and planning your trip
Citov is served by bus. Another option is to use the railway stop in Brodek, two kilometres from Citov. If you travel by bus or train, check the timetable for your travel date in advance. If you are planning a visit around an event, it is also a good idea to check the specific dates before you travel.
