Annín brings together local history and a lakeside landscape. Part of the historic centre still preserves a clearly defined linear village layout; Annínské Lake is one of the Tovačovská Lakes, a system of four separate bodies of water. This gives you both a historical perspective on the settlement and a distinct focus on the water when planning your trip.

Local History and the Chapel of Saint Anne

The Annín housing settlement was founded in 1799. Part of the historic centre still preserves a clearly defined linear village layout. A linear village is a settlement where houses are arranged along a road; the term draws attention to the shape of the village centre rather than to a single building. The Chapel of Saint Anne is the village’s most distinctive landmark and is listed among the cultural monuments in Tovačov II–Annín. Above the altar, it has a painted ceiling. The local history thus brings two scales together: the settlement pattern of part of the centre and a single cultural monument with a striking architectural detail.

Lakeside Landscape and Swimming Guidance

Annínské Lake is part of the Tovačovská Lakes, a system of four separate bodies of water. Swimming is permitted at your own risk in the designated area of Annínské Lake; check this local rule before you arrive. The geographical boundary matters when planning: permission to swim applies to the designated area of Annínské Lake, not to the entire four-part system as a whole. A 2018 account mentions European beavers in the lakes around Annín. Present-day Skašovský Lake is a remnant formed by intensive gravel and sand extraction in the second half of the 20th century. The two lakes raise different questions: Annínské Lake is associated with specific, clearly bounded swimming guidance, while Skašovský Lake is notable for its origins. The timeline stretches from the founding of the housing settlement in 1799 to the later transformation of the waterscape through extraction.

Routes and Places of Remembrance

Two different reference points can help with route planning. The Moravská stezka branches off behind the Tovačov bus station onto the road to Annín and Lobodice. A green-marked hiking trail leads towards Annín behind the Tovačov watermill; after crossing the road, it continues to the dam of the Skašovské reservoir. The two directions therefore have different landmarks: the bus station and the turn-off for the Moravská stezka, and the watermill and dam for the hiking trail. A nearby educational trail, “In the Footsteps of the Battle of Tovačov 1866,” includes a sandstone pyramid at the dam of Skašovský Lake, dedicated to an unknown Austrian soldier. The trail adds a specific place of remembrance to the route information and brings another historical subject into your planning.
