In Skuchrow, tangible traces of local history meet distant views and seasonal trails. The granary is only partially preserved, a chapel is linked to the village’s first pilgrimage, and from several places you can see named mountains and ridges. When planning your trip, you can weigh up different priorities: cultural history, scenery or cross-country skiing in winter.

Local history at the granary, chapel and associations

The Špýchar granary is in the upper part of Skuhrov. It was built in 1832 to store grain and help prevent shortages. Today, only a corner section of the perimeter wall remains visible. Its construction date and purpose tell the story of the granary’s former role; the surviving section of wall also makes clear that this is a fragment, not a complete building.

In the lower part of Huntířov, the Chapel of Saint Vojtěch stands below the fire pond. Its construction was a prerequisite for the village’s first pilgrimage. The chapel is therefore both a specific place and part of local cultural history.

Other historical dates reveal different aspects of local life: the first glass-pressing workshop in Huntířov was established in 1865, and the Tyl theatre association was founded there in 1889. Together with the granary dating from 1832, these details point to different themes—provisions, craftsmanship and association life. They give visitors several cultural points of interest, without implying a fixed events programme.

Distant views and landscapes

The landscape features have clearly defined geographical boundaries. The southern part of Skuhrov’s municipal area extends into the Maloskalsko Nature Park. A small part of the edge of the Český ráj UNESCO Global Geopark also lies within the municipal area. In the north, several places offer distant views of the Krkonoše Mountains, part of the Jizera Mountains, Ještěd and Kozákov. This makes it possible to distinguish the protected landscapes in the south from the named distant views in the north.

A well-maintained viewpoint above Skuhrov offers views of Kozákov, Maloskalsko, Sokol and the Kopanina ridge. For another viewpoint near the cross in the direction of Skuhrov, a 2019 municipal newsletter mentions a covered seating area, an information board about the municipality, descriptive panels about the viewpoint and play equipment for children. Check the condition of these facilities before your visit.

Seasonal trails

Skuhrov’s groomed cross-country ski trail network forms a circular route through the municipality. Trails branch off via Hamrštice in Pěnčín towards Kopanina, Dupanda in Alšovice and Černá Studnice. This is a seasonal offering: grooming and trail availability may vary. Check which trails are actually available before setting out.

A municipal notice from June 2023 also mentions a circular route with viewpoint benches. It passes Jerdovka above Huntířov, Alšovská Road below the cemetery in Skuhrov, Nácův Hill below the water tower in Skuhrov and Skřib in Huntířov. The route thus connects four named stops across the two villages. As local conditions can change, it is sensible to check them before setting out.

For planning, the key difference lies in the offerings: grooming and availability of the ski trail network explicitly depend on the season; for the circular route, the named stops are a useful guide, although local conditions may change. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first plan your trip around your preferred activity and check the relevant conditions in advance.

Plan your journey

The municipality’s transport information lists bus route 530842 between Jablonec nad Nisou, Skuhrov, Huntířov and Železný Brod. The timetable shown is valid from 15 December 2024. Check departure times before travelling, before basing your day’s plans on them. This lets you take the bus connection into account without assuming that departure times are fixed.
