Bratříkov can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: the Freedom Monument and its history, the historic farmstead, and landscape features such as the U Lavičky viewpoint. The former Pirochův quarry is also part of the village’s history. If you are considering Bratříkov as a travel destination, these themes provide a practical basis for matching your own interests with the area’s distinctive features.

The Freedom Monument and layers of history

The Freedom Monument, featuring a bust of T. G. Masaryk, was unveiled on 14 August 1919 in Bratříkov’s small square. It was created through a public collection; later, the names of the men from Bratříkov who fell in the First World War were added. Its creation and the local commemoration of the fallen are therefore part of its history. Historically, the monument was considered one of the first of its kind in the republic and the first in the Semily district.

An earlier historical connection leads to Návarov Castle: Bratříkov once belonged to the estate associated with the castle. This connection adds a different period to the monument’s history. Those interested in local history can thus find both a link to the former system of lordship and a monument whose history can be traced to a specific date and names added later.

Viewpoint and landscape

The U Lavičky viewpoint lies above Bratříkov. From there, you can see Černá Studnice, Bratříkov and Skalička–Hamrštice. The best way to reach the viewpoint is from Kostřavec Hill via Dolence in the direction of Loužnice. Check the current trail conditions against the route described in 2023 before setting out. Visibility can also change with vegetation and land management.

The Žernovník stream flows through Bratříkov. Together, the stream and the viewpoint offer two different connections to the landscape: the stream runs through the village, while U Lavičky lies above it and offers views of several named places. This gives you a practical distinction to guide your interests: either the landscape panorama from the viewpoint or the stream as part of the village scene.

Farmstead, quarry and sports

The historic farmstead was later known as U Zámečníků or Na Rychtě. Three sandstone statues were erected at the farmstead in 1812: Saint Peter, Saint Paul and the Good Shepherd. The farmstead, together with the statues beside it, still stands on the main road and may be a worthwhile stop for travellers. If you plan to stop, it is sensible to check the conditions on site.

The Pirochův quarry is part of the area’s industrial history. It was located in Štebrov, a part of Bratříkov, in a valley between the slopes of Bratříkov and Těpeře. This location links the former quarry to a specific landscape feature and distinguishes it from the architectural history of the farmstead.

T. J. Sokol Bratříkov offers all-round sports activities for preschool children and school pupils. If taking part is something you are considering for your trip, check the options directly with the club. The themes covered range from historical memorials and sculptures to landscape and sport; when choosing where to stay, you can focus on whichever aspect interests you most.
