A lookout tower with views across several mountain ranges, a 12.7-kilometre circular trail and a vehicle collection featuring original racing machines give Wiesenthal on the Neisse a variety of excursion highlights. You can tailor your stay to hiking, architecture or the history of technology, and plan your visits according to your own priorities.

Views and hiking trails

Rozhledna Bramberk can be reached on foot, by bicycle or by car. A red-marked hiking trail leads there from Lučany nad Nisou. From the tower, the view stretches across the Jizerské hory range, the Krkonoše massif, Sněžka, Jablonec nad Nisou and the Ještědský hřeben ridge. Which of these destinations are visible varies with the weather. If you are travelling on foot, check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.

Another marked hiking route runs from Bramberk, first following red markers and then green markers to Rozhledna Slovanka. The sequence of trail markers provides clear guidance; conditions along this route can also change. Rozhledna Slovanka is the oldest iron lookout tower in Bohemia. Since 7 July 1999, it has been listed in the register of the National Heritage Institute. After its reconstruction, it was ceremonially reopened to the public on 5 July 2000. These dates offer a glimpse into the tower’s heritage history.

Stezka svobody: a themed circular trail

Stezka svobody is a 12.7-kilometre circular trail. It connects the Lípy svobody planted in 2018 in Lučany nad Nisou, Horní Maxov and Jindřichov. Twelve stops explore the theme of freedom and feature glass cubes, metal bands and quotations. The route thus combines a defined hiking trail with a cultural theme that unfolds across several stops.

For planning, the trail’s length and circular route provide clear reference points. Its thematic design is another consideration: rather than simply leading from one viewpoint to the next, Stezka svobody incorporates its stops and design details. Signage and trail conditions can change, so check this information before setting out.

Architecture and the history of technology

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Lučany nad Nisou is a Neo-Renaissance building dating from 1886–1887 and was consecrated in 1889. Its floor plan is shaped like a Greek cross, and its furnishings date from the 19th century. The interior is being restored on an ongoing basis. The construction period, consecration and furnishings give the church a clearly dated architectural history; the restoration is an ongoing part of its development.

At the Automoto Museum Lučany, the development of the automobile over a century is presented through numerous models and makes, including original racing cars. The motorcycle collection ranges from models from the early 20th century through the heyday of European manufacturers to the later development of Japanese manufacturers. It also includes purpose-built racing machines. Different periods in automotive and motorcycle history are represented side by side, from early models to racing vehicles.

Motorsport with a connection to the Dakar Rally is represented by specific exhibits: authentic racing machines, Josef Macháček’s quad, which has won multiple times, David Pabiška’s first Dakar motorcycle, and original artefacts from this rally raid. The collection thus ranges from vehicles to objects from the rally. Architecture and the history of technology offer a different focus from the lookout towers and hiking trails.
