In Špišić Bukovica, an unusual theme offers a glimpse into local discovery: tea. The “Kuća čaja – Oaza mira” visitor centre is located in the town. Visitors can sample tea in a total of six themed rooms. As the menus may change, it is worth checking the current selection before visiting.

Outside the visitor centre, too, you can see how varied the municipality is. The Municipality of Špišić Bukovica stretches from the forested, wine-growing hills of Bilogora across fertile plains to the Drava. Vineyards dot the slopes of Bilogora. In Vukosavljevica, the Vinski “Podrum” has been a meeting place for the area’s experienced winemakers for years.

Local History in Buildings and Collections

The parish church of St John the Baptist in Špišić Bukovica was built in 1753. The Zavičajna zbirka Špišić Bukovica, which opened in 2024, offers another way to explore the town’s history. Its collection includes objects, photographs and documents relating to life in Špišić Bukovica and its development over different periods.

The collection’s archaeological finds span prehistory, the period of the nomads and the first houses. Other objects relate to food and traditional life, as well as weaving and textile production. Early finds are thus presented alongside themes of everyday life and handicrafts.

Gradina, locally known as Turski grad, is a very well-preserved medieval fortification. Its features include eight defensive terraces and a plateau, as well as a surviving earthen rampart that fed a large reservoir. Traces of the Roman road from Ptuj to Osijek are also visible in the municipality between Vukosavljevica and Mali Zagreb. The site of Zidine was home to a Benedictine monastery, considered one of the oldest monasteries in Croatia.

Traditions and Events

The traditional Ivanjski-Kresovi bonfires are lit every year on the eve of St John’s Day, 24 June, in Čimen Park. If you would like to plan your stay around this festival, check the current programme. The traditional Bučijada and Jesenski sajam were held on 18 October 2025 at the market and in Hrvatski dom in Špišić Bukovica.

Angling also has a place in the events calendar: in 2026, the traditional Memorijal Martincević–Ratković individual float-fishing tournament was held at the Zidine retention pond. For information about other events, check locally in advance.

Woodland Scenery and Getting Around

Kinkovo is a destination where visitors can enjoy the tranquillity of the Slavonian forests. When the cycling tourism rest stop at Kurija “Špišić” opened in 2018, stations for renting conventional bicycles and e-bikes were set up there. If you are planning to rent a bike, check in advance whether this service is currently available.

The town centre’s transport links are another useful feature for getting around the municipality: both the Podravina trunk road and the railway line pass through Špišić Bukovica. Check the relevant timetables for your specific journey.
