In the centre of Novi Marof, on a hill above the Bednja Valley, lies a protected park covering 12.65 hectares. Its vegetation is characterised mainly by native species of the pedunculate oak and hornbeam forest community. The grounds have been protected as a monument of park architecture since 1962.

The park’s origins are linked to the new manor farm built by the Erdődy counts after the fire at Grebengrad in 1710. The park can therefore be understood both through its protected architecture and its historical connection to the manor farm.

Church, Feast Day and Cultural Life

The Church and Monastery of Saint Anthony of Padua were completed in 1984. The church was consecrated on 28 October 1984; on the same day, Archbishop Franjo Kuharić also blessed the new monastery. Saint Anthony’s Day on 13 June is celebrated in Novi Marof every year with religious, socio-cultural and sporting events.

Pučko otvoreno učilište Novi Marof is a public institution offering lifelong learning programmes, various courses, educational programmes and creative workshops. Its offerings also include a cinema, exhibitions and concerts. The Ivan Rabuzin Cultural Centre is the main venue for most cultural events in Novi Marof. KAJkavski vikend v Marofu is dedicated to the tradition and cultural heritage of the Novi Marof region. The Ethno Association “Greben” in Madžarevo offers another way to explore cultural heritage: it makes its collection accessible to the public through exhibitions, creative educational workshops and lectures.

Hiking Trail, Forest and Other Activities

The 5.5-kilometre Grebengrad–Čevo hiking trail runs through the area around Novi Marof. The ruins of Grebengrad are also nearby. Grebengrad is considered one of Croatia’s largest fortresses.

The Paka forest complex in the municipality is suitable for walking and mushroom picking. Visitors can also see the remains of a medieval fortification there. If you plan to visit this site specifically, check the practical access arrangements in advance.

Numerous competitions have been held for several years at the Rauš karting track in Možđenec. Fishing is another leisure activity in the Novi Marof tourist area, in the valleys of the Bednja and Lonja rivers. Alongside parks and cultural attractions, there are also various activities to choose from in the wider area.
