Jakšić Municipality can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: local history, a cultural monument and archaeological traces from different periods. The area also has a landscape shaped by agriculture. This offers various starting points for planning your trip—from architectural history to understanding the archaeological sites.

Church and Settlement History

The Church of Saint Barbara in Jakšić is a cultural monument. It was built in 1720 with elements of Pseudogothic style and expanded in 1910. The construction and expansion therefore represent two separate stages in its architectural history. An earlier local history is associated with the medieval settlement of Sveti Đurađ: Jakšić is located on its site. This makes it possible to distinguish the settlement’s history from the church’s later architectural history.

Two archaeological sites also represent different historical connections. Čaire in Jakšić is a protected immovable individual cultural monument. Sastavke contains remains of settlements from the Late Iron Age and the late Middle Ages. These dates help distinguish the respective sites rather than treating them as a single historical setting.

Archaeological Sites and Periods

At Tekić, Treštanovačka Gradina contains the remains of a Roman villa rustica and baths. They are dated to the period from the beginning of the 2nd century to the end of the 4th century. Numerous finds from Late Antiquity have also been discovered there. Gradina thus offers its own point of reference in the municipality’s archaeological history.

A different period is represented by the Zelena Laguna fishpond near Rajsavac. Pottery sherds from the Lasinja culture, dating from 1950 to 1750 BC, were found there. By comparison, the remains at Treštanovačka Gradina point to the Roman period and Late Antiquity, while Sastavke represents settlement remains from the Late Iron Age and the late Middle Ages. These differences make the sites interesting to travellers who want to understand historical periods not only through a single building, but also through a range of archaeological connections.

Landscape and Orientation

Jakšić Municipality is a lowland plain shaped by agriculture, with valleys, fields and forests. Jakšić is also part of the Požega–Pleternica wine-growing region. This adds a landscape and wine-growing perspective to the cultural monuments and archaeological sites, without implying a specific local offering.

The municipal centre of Jakšić is located on the Požega–Našice road, 7 kilometres from the county seat of Požega. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider what matters most for your trip: local and architectural history, the different archaeological periods, or the landscape and wine-growing region. This can help you choose Jakšić Municipality as a destination based on the subjects that interest you most.
