A 15-kilometre trail leads from Kampor through Dundo and Kalifront to Frkanj and the bay of Sv. Eufemija. This route alone shows how you can explore Rab’s forest landscapes and coastal trails.

Forests, Karst and Trails

Dundo is a protected holm oak forest designated as a botanical park in 1949. The landscape in Kalifront is shaped by Karst terrain, an indented coastline and hidden coves among pine forests. Rab’s western side is also covered in holm oak greenery; the island’s interior is home to centuries-old olive groves and vineyards. More than 30 per cent of the island is covered in diverse vegetation. The coast facing Velebit is rocky.

Comparing two longer trails by length reveals that they are similar in scale but follow different routes: the Rab–Maman trail is 14 kilometres long and begins at Rab’s city walls. It passes through Kampor and Dumići on its way to Maman. Premužić Trail 2 is 15 kilometres long, starts in Kampor and leads through Dundo and Kalifront to Frkanj and the bay of Sv. Eufemija.

Rab Archaeological (T)races brings archaeological sites within reach along three educational trails connecting around 30 sites. The trails include 34 information points along approximately 40 kilometres of paths. The app works offline and is designed for walkers, cyclists and hikers. Rab offers more than 340 kilometres of cycling trails for a cycling holiday.

Culture and Maritime History

The Basilica of St Peter in Supetarska Draga dates back to the 11th century and is considered Croatia’s oldest Romanesque church. The JUXTA MARE virtual museum explores Rab’s shipbuilding, seafaring and fishing history. Marina Rab and Marina Supetarska Draga are also part of the ACI Marina portfolio in the Kvarner Bay.

Rabska fjera takes place every year from 25 to 27 July. The programme includes traditional crafts and knightly games. The recurring festival days and historical themes found elsewhere offer different ways to explore the island, without requiring a set itinerary.

Coastal Towns and Activities

In Kampor, Mel Beach can be reached by sea or by car. There are parking spaces, restaurants and bars. A dedicated entrance is provided for people with special needs; a section of the beach in the southern part is reserved for pets. Kandarola Beach can be reached by car or by taxi boat from Rab or Palit.

The coast around Lopar has its own highlights: Rajska plaža is almost two kilometres long and has been awarded the Blue Flag. Several colonies of bottlenose dolphins live in the sea around Lopar. Sea kayaking around Rab offers a way to explore hidden coves and beaches; glass-bottom kayaks are also available to rent.

In Suha Punta, shady cycling trails lead to hidden beaches. The area has sun loungers, restaurants, sports grounds and toilets; parking is right next to the hotel. Visitors interested in diving can find options on Rab that include instruction from dive instructors, one-week courses and equipment hire.

A Taste of the Island

Rab has a long fishing tradition. In Banjol, fresh fish, Kvarner prawns, octopus and shellfish are prepared with Mediterranean herbs and homemade olive oil. Local and homemade wines can be served with meals. Kampor’s dining options also include fresh fish, homemade olive oil and wine.
