Donja Vrućica lies in a hollow on the inland-facing slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula. Vineyards, Dalmatian limestone, olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation shape the surroundings. Alongside its topography, cultural heritage gives the village another distinctive profile.

Landscape and Winegrowing

Donja Vrućica is one of two nearby settlements where the rural character of the Trpanj area can be experienced among the vineyards. The landscape offers two complementary perspectives: the terrain of the hollow and slopes, and the vineyards as part of the rural surroundings. This makes it possible to understand the village both through its location and its winegrowing.

Historical Traces in the Village

Donja Vrućica is classified as a rural heritage ensemble. The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian was built in 1548 and enlarged in 1873. The enlargement resulted in a church in the shape of a Latin cross, with a dome. The two dates mark different stages in its construction history.

The church is also classified as a historic religious heritage building. The remains of the Bunić summer residence, classified as historic residential heritage, and Gomila na Muškatilu, an archaeological site, are distinct from it. Religious architecture, residential heritage and archaeology thus represent different aspects of the local cultural heritage.

Wine Tastings and the Road to the Coves

The area around Donja and Gornja Vrućica is associated with tastings of Pelješac wines, homemade olive oil and Mediterranean figs. These culinary connections complement the landscape and cultural themes with regional flavors that may be part of planning a trip.

A 15-kilometre road leads to Divna and Duba coves and runs alongside the vineyards of Donja and Gornja Vrućica. If you plan to take this route, check the road conditions locally.

Trpanj as the Main Destination

In the wider destination of Trpanj, the Jadrolinija ferry crossing from Ploče to Trpanj takes one hour. Check the timetable before your trip, as departure times may change. Allow one hour for the crossing.

The beaches in the wider destination of Trpanj also offer different points of reference. The pebble beach Pozora has natural shade and shallow water and is suitable for children. Visitors can rent recreational equipment there; availability may vary by season. Luka beach is at the eastern entrance to Trpanj, in the bay of the same name. Pozora can be identified by its beach features, while Luka is distinguished by its location in the village. Pozora beach also has a beach bar. Check in advance whether it is open when you visit, so you can plan it as an additional possible stop.

Another historical and cultural aspect concerns Trpanj: its residents were among the first to retain the use of the Croatian language in commercial correspondence.
