Oskorušno is a waypoint on two cycling routes: MTB Trail 2 follows the Kuna–Janjina–Trpanj–Oskorušno–Kuna loop; the town is also on the Ploče/Trpanj–Ston stage of EuroVelo 8. Other highlights include the viewpoint at St. Nicholas Church, paths through a stony cultural landscape, and Velika Prapratna Bay.
Cycling: Loop and EuroVelo Stage
MTB Trail 2 is around 40 kilometers long and can be ridden in its entirety without dismounting. On the way to Oskorušno, it follows a strenuous, narrow asphalt climb and then a gravel road. The EuroVelo 8 stage runs between Ploče or Trpanj and Ston. From Trpanj, it crosses a pass, heads inland, and descends again toward Oskorušno. Before setting out, it is advisable to check current route conditions.
Walking Paths Between Vineyards and Stone Walls
The Viter mountain path reaches Oskorušno after a 1,300-meter asphalt climb and a further two kilometers on a gravel road. Along the way, the path passes vineyards, olive groves, and dry-stone walls. The walls and stone piles reflect the clearing of the karst terrain for grapevines, olives, and figs. The stones used along the path are also associated with the work of women from Pelješac and agricultural laborers. This is another way to read the landscape through its agricultural history.
Trpanjski putevi maslinovog ulja offers a six-kilometer link for walking and cycling routes to Velika Prapratna Bay. The route passes restored, centuries-old olive groves and dry-stone walls. Its viewpoints reveal the interplay of stone, olive trees, and sea. Information boards and stone benches are located at junctions and widened sections; check before setting out whether the trail facilities are still up to date. By comparison, the Viter mountain path specifies sections of the climb to Oskorušno, while the olive oil route focuses on the connection to the bay.
Views, Villages and the Bay
St. Nicholas Church stands high above Oskorušno and serves as a viewpoint. From there, the view extends to the mouth of the Neretva, the northern coast of Pelješac, and inland vineyards. The approach to Oskorušno is also associated with centuries-old olive and fig trees, as well as old villages and traditional architecture.
The route through Oskorušno leads to Velika Prapratna Bay. The bay is suitable for a full day of swimming and combines evergreen forest with crystal-clear sea. Oskorušno is recommended as a passage from southern Orebić to the hidden bays on the northern side of Pelješac. This adds another direction for trip planning alongside the viewpoints and routes.
Culture in the Wider Orebić Destination
A distinct archaeological highlight in the wider Orebić destination is in Nakovanj: the Špilja Spila Nakovana archaeological site is a protected cultural asset. The cave served as an Illyrian sanctuary in the 3rd to 4th centuries BC. The historical and cultural complex Povijesni prostor Nakovana, which includes Gornja and Donja Nakovana, is also protected. These sites add a distinct archaeological highlight within the Orebić destination to Oskorušno’s routes and landscape themes.
