Sreser lies on the shore of the Malo more, at the southern foothills of the Rota. This means that getting your bearings begins both along the coast and on the hillside: the nearby islets, a path between Sreser and Drače, and the town’s historic traces give your stay different points of focus. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether you want to devote your days mainly to the coastal area, hiking or local history. This decision can help you choose the length of your stay and how to divide your days according to your interests.

Coast and paths in Sreser

The islets off Sreser are part of a coastline considered valuable, stretching from Rat through Stiniva to Osobjava. If you want to check the precise boundaries of the designated landscape, consult the current official plan.

Gospin škoj, the small islet opposite the central beach, can be reached on foot or by swimming, depending on conditions, and can be circumnavigated. A cross marks its highest point, which is considered a viewpoint and a place to sunbathe. The small island group off Sreser can be explored by small boat or kayak. Take local sea conditions and the weather into account.

Hiking Trail 6 is the Sreser–Drače–Sreser loop route. It starts in the centre of Sreser and follows a paved road to the Osobjava–Drače junction. Between Drače and Sreser, the route follows a pedestrian promenade along the coast, with views towards the Pelješac Bridge. The route description is from a hiking map published in 2022. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Historic traces in the town

Sreser is recorded from 1370. In 1396, the land register of Pelješac mentions a church of Saint Mary in the Sreser area. The Church of Our Lady of Loreto on the mainland is mentioned in Sreser from 1617; in 1791, a new mainland Church of Our Lady of Loreto was built.

Roman traces are also part of the town’s history: Sreser had a villa rustica with a mosaic, a bathhouse and tiles. Roman soldiers’ graves are associated with the Church of Our Lady of Loreto. The historical connections therefore span Roman remains, the 1396 record, later mentions of churches and the 1791 construction.

Janjina as a regional setting

The wider travel destination of Janjina offers a broader perspective. The Malostonski zaljev i Malo more Special Reserve includes 921.8 hectares of sea within the Općina Janjina. Oyster and mussel farming in the Malostonski Channel has a tradition dating back to antiquity. The Općina Janjina is also known for vineyards growing Plavac mali and other well-known grape varieties. Pebble beaches are found in the settlements of Sreser and Drače. These regional points of interest complement Sreser’s local coastal and hiking attractions with the landscapes and food traditions of the wider destination.
