Historic churches and cycling routes offer different ways to experience Sveti Vid-Miholjice. The Mihojski Path leads from the parish church through the Cickini archaeological site; its return leg passes through olive groves and oak forests. Those interested in local history will also find several specific points of interest here—from an archaeological complex to churches with documented construction and renovation dates.

Exploring on foot and by bike

The Mihojski Path starts at the parish church in Sveti Vid-Miholjice and leads through the Cickini archaeological site. On the return leg, the path winds through olive groves and oak forests. This brings archaeological traces and wooded landscapes together along a single route, without requiring an additional trail.

The moderately difficult, 18.5-kilometre Mihojski cycling route offers a different perspective. It starts in Sveti Vid-Miholjice and runs past olive groves, old settlements and cart tracks to Jezero, which is considered Krk’s largest natural freshwater habitat. The return leg follows paths alongside dry-stone walls. Its stated length and difficulty make this a clearly defined cycling option; the Mihojski Path, by contrast, passes on foot through Cickini and continues through olive groves and oak forest. Cycling route B-426 also runs through Sveti Vid-Miholjice.

Cickini: church, baptistery and stone sculpture

The Cickini archaeological site is located near Sveti Vid-Miholjice. It includes a church with a baptistery and ancillary rooms, dating from the 6th to 8th centuries, as well as part of a residential and ceremonial complex. The baptistery contains a 6th-century baptismal font. These structures illustrate different aspects of the site: the sacred area with its baptistery and the complex’s additional rooms.

Cickini is associated with fragments of stone liturgical furnishings and decorative architectural sculpture, including capitals, slabs, cross motifs and biforate windows. The Cickini Archaeological Collection is housed in the Peknjica building in Sveti Vid-Miholjice and displays stone objects from the site, including a baptismal font. The Cickini exhibition in Sveti Vid-Miholjice presented the site’s stone sculpture to the public for the first time.

Churches and local history

The churches also tell the story of different periods. The Church of the Archangel Michael has a 30-metre-high bell tower with a village clock installed in 1926. The present-day sacred decoration was created by Slavko Pengov of Ljubljana. The Chapel of St Michael at the cemetery is classified as a religious building. The rural settlement of Sveti Vid-Miholjice is also designated a protected rural cultural monument.

The Chapel of St Vitus was first mentioned in 1451, when Ivan Frankopan confirmed the local patronage rights. From 1887 to 1890, it served an important pastoral function in Sv. Vid. Its renovations took place at separate times: the exterior was restored in 1933/1934 and the interior in 1939. These dates offer a distinct way to explore local history, separate from the early medieval evidence at Cickini.
