The Maskeron in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Dobrinj is an impressive sculpture of a man's head, believed to date from 1738 and to have been created by a local folk artist. The church in the centre of Dobrinj serves as an exhibition space for exhibits from the Dobrinj area.
The Parish Church of St Stephen also brings together art and history. It is one of the oldest parish churches and is mentioned in a Glagolitic document from 1100. Its sacred collection includes liturgical objects, paintings and sculptures from the 14th to the 19th century. The church and collection offer a journey through several centuries of religious art.
Sacred Art in the Villages
In Klimno, the Church of St Clement houses a protected wooden Renaissance polyptych. This multi-panel artwork depicts the Madonna, the Child and saints. The Church of St Peter stands on a hill in Gabonjin and is considered the area's most representative sacred building. The two churches offer different perspectives on sacred art and its significance in the villages.
Above Soline, the medieval Church of St Philip and St James stands on a small, secluded hill. Soline Bay is also mentioned in historical records: Glagolitic documents from 1379 and 1465 refer to it. The two churches and the documentary references offer different ways to explore the history around Soline.
Coast, Nature and Discoveries
Šilo is a tourist centre in the Dobrinj area. Pećine Beach in Šilo is suitable for children and has been awarded the Blue Flag; check the flag's status seasonally. Another distinctive feature of the coast is Meline Beach, known for its healing mud. The mud is believed to have a beneficial effect in relieving various forms of bone pain. Soline Bay is considered the only place on Krk with medicinal herbs.
Those wishing to explore a cave can visit Biserujka in Rudine. Near Šilo is also the underwater site of the Greek shipwreck Peltastis; island diving clubs organise dives there. If you would like to plan this excursion, check availability with the clubs.
Maritime Klimno and Stipanja
Klimno has a mooring for boats. The village also has boat-building and repair workshops. Together, the mooring and the craftsmanship reflect two maritime sides of Klimno: boats can moor here, while the workshops build and maintain them.
Stipanja is the feast day of the patron saint of the parish and the municipality of Dobrinj; it takes place on 3 August. The celebrations include a Church Slavonic service, an afternoon folklore programme in the square and an evening folk festival. Check the event dates before your trip.
The Ethnographic Collection in Dobrinj can be visited during the summer months. At other times, an appointment must be made in advance by phone with the Municipality of Dobrinj. Confirm the seasonal visiting arrangements in advance.
