A 50-kilometre network of themed hiking trails runs throughout the Municipality of Župa Dubrovačka. The Connecting Route links Župa Dubrovačka with the Croatian Long Distance Trail towards Srđ above Dubrovnik and with the Heart of Konavle Trail. When choosing a route, you can distinguish between the municipality-wide network and these connections. Check current trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.
Hiking Trails and Coast
The coast, too, reveals different sides. Župa Dubrovačka has 22 beaches for sunbathing and swimming; this number may change if they are reclassified. Mlini is known for its shallow pebble beaches, sheltered bays, flower gardens and promenades. Duboka Ljuta lies in the northeastern part of Župa Bay and also has a pebble beach. While Mlini combines several coastal features, Duboka Ljuta can be identified by its location in the bay and its beach.
Traces of Trade and History
Mlini was a historic centre of milling. One of the former mills is still well preserved. The Church of St Ilara is also part of the area's long history: it is mentioned in the Statute of Dubrovnik in 1272 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1683. Milling and church architecture represent two distinct historical threads that coexist in Mlini.
Kupari is considered the oldest tourist resort in Župa; the first hotel was built there in 1920. Between Kupari and Srebreno, Goričina was once a settlement and a port. Fragments of Roman amphorae, pottery and coins were found there. Amphorae, urns and coins of Roman emperors were unearthed in Srebreno; the finds attest to the area's historical continuity. Spiona, the oldest archaeological site in Plat, preserves traces of the Illyrians and Romans. At different locations across the municipality, you can therefore encounter both evidence of tourism and archaeological sites.
Churches and Living Culture
The Church of St Peter, built in the 16th century, stands on Trapita Hill, offering a view over Župa Bay. Above Plat is the medieval votive chapel of St John, first mentioned in 1366. In Soline, the Church of St Nicholas features a Gothic phase dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, as well as an extension from the 18th century. The different dates—from the first mention of St Ilara in 1272 to the extension of St Nicholas in the 18th century—give an impression of the different periods represented in the municipality's sacred architecture.
KUD Marko Marojica preserves cultural heritage and Župa dances and performs folk dances in traditional Župa costumes; this work has been ongoing since 1976. For 2026, the guided tour “Hidden Stories of Mlini” has been announced, visiting the ruins of the Bettera summer house and exploring the cultural and regional history of Mlini and Župa Dubrovačka. Check the dates for 2026 before planning.
Buggy tours through the rural part of Župa Dubrovačka are also recommended as an adventure activity. If you are considering this option, check separately whether an operator is currently available.
