The bridge over the Kupa and the Jurinac Traditional House showcase two defining aspects of Brest Pokupski: its riverside landscape and historic architecture. There is also a village festival that has been celebrated for generations around Pentecost. This offers different focuses for your stay—from the heritage of the Pokuplje region and local traditions to exploring the river.
By the river and in the surrounding area
The bridge over the Kupa connects the two banks, allowing you to cross from one side to the other. It is also one of Brest Pokupski’s main attractions, offering views of the river and the surrounding landscape. The area includes green meadows, forests and fields, suitable for walks and outdoor relaxation. The banks of the Kupa are also worth exploring; swimming is a seasonal option there.
For cyclists, the Ciklo ruta Obalama rijeka is another way to experience the riverside landscape. The route is listed in the 2026 public tourism infrastructure directory. It passes through Brest Pokupski, Vurot and Stara DrenÄŤina, connects Petrinja with Sisak, starts in Petrinja and follows the banks of the Kupa. The named places describe its route; the connection between Petrinja and Sisak also places Brest Pokupski within a wider route.
Traditional architecture
The traditional Jurinac House in Brest Pokupski is listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods under number Z-6067. It retains its original architectural form and details and is considered one of the most valuable examples of traditional architecture in the Pokuplje region. The complex includes a courtyard, a garden, a cellar, a pigsty, a chicken coop and a covered well. The house is therefore part of a farmstead whose features extend beyond the residential building.
Village traditions and music
Brestovsko Posvetilo is the village’s dedication day and is also celebrated as the village day; the wooden Chapel of St. Barbara is at its heart. The festival has been celebrated for generations around Pentecost. The 2026 festival included a cultural and artistic programme, a gathering of residents and guests, and a Mass in the chapel. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for the year you have in mind.
A 2023 festival catalogue links the Pokupljanka folklore group from Brest Pokupski with the tradition of the oldest vocal group in the Petrinja area, founded in 1923. The performances described there include local songs and dances, linen costumes with silk embroidery, and a tamburitza ensemble with violin. The group thus brings together singing, dancing, and a distinctive tradition of costume and instruments.
