Those interested in the local mining heritage will encounter it in Mursko Središće in several forms: as an exhibition, a sculpture and a monument. For outdoor activity, there is the Mura Promenade, where you can walk and cycle, and an educational walking trail between the promenades of Mursko Središće and Sveti Martin. Event dates offer another practical starting point for planning.

Mining History in the Exhibition and Urban Landscape

Spomen-dom rudarstva is housed in a former coal-sorting building. It was established to preserve, protect and promote the mining heritage. The mining section displays coal-classification hoppers, mining tools, old photographs and documents. There are also multimedia presentations and simulated mine tunnels. In this way, objects and visual and written materials are brought together with a spatial representation of mining: different ways of exploring a shared theme.

Visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement. Please arrange your visit before you arrive.

The sculpture Rudar Ivek stands on the St Barbara Promenade. It was installed in June 2025 as a permanent tribute to the city's miners. The design is intended as an interactive experience: you can sit next to the figure, take photos and read an information panel about local mining history. This means the mining heritage is present not only in an exhibition, but also as a permanent landmark along a promenade.

Historical Dates and Monuments

Three dates provide a timeline for other historic sites: the group of shrines dedicated to the Holy Trinity dates from 1807, and the parish church of St Ladislaus the King and St Stephen from 1820. The Miners' Monument in the central park was erected in 1952. Read in this order, the dates connect religious buildings with a later monument to mining history. They offer different starting points for exploring the city's cultural heritage.

The Mura Promenade and Educational Walking Trail

You can walk and cycle along the Mura Promenade. Its amenities include the Curek drinking-water spring, information panels and sculptures, seating, a large children's playground, a summer stage, a shelter and outdoor exercise equipment. These features serve different purposes: exercise along the promenade, breaks on the benches, and opportunities for play or training.

An educational walking trail was created by connecting the promenades of Mursko Središće and Sveti Martin. Panels along the Mura route explain Fusek and the plant and animal life at sites along the river. Alongside the mining theme, you can also learn about the nature of the river. The connection between the two promenades serves as a point of orientation, while the panels introduce specific topics along the way.
