The meteorite fall on May 26, 1751, gives Hrašćina a clearly defined historical theme. The place is associated with the first documented meteorite fall. There is also a viewpoint above Trgovišće, an ecological trail and traces of different eras. This makes Hrašćina a destination where natural history, cultural heritage and landscape come together.

Views and the Trail’s Theme

The 14-meter-high Piramida is located above Trgovišće on Pipinićev put. From there, the view extends across Hrašćina and large parts of Hrvatsko Zagorje; on a clear day, the Alps are also visible. The distant view as far as the Alps is therefore dependent on clear conditions. Pipinićev put is an educational ecological trail through the Hrašćina area. It is named after teacher Branko Pipinić, who founded the local hiking club. Piramida and Pipinićev put offer different highlights: one provides views across the landscape, while the other is an ecological trail with a story behind its name.

Meteorite Fall and Cultural Heritage

Kurija Belošević was built in 1848 and is protected cultural heritage in Croatia. The Susreti meteorita gatherings are held there. Since 1995, the gatherings in Hrašćina have also been associated with visits by Croatian writers. If the Susreti meteorita is the reason for your trip, check the current dates in advance. At a road junction in the center of Hrašćina, a Roman funerary stele is incorporated into the St. Anne Samotreća wayside shrine. The manor house and the shrine represent different forms of cultural heritage: the manor house is a protected building and venue for cultural gatherings, while the shrine incorporates a Roman gravestone into a religious site.

The Hrašćina meteorite fell on May 26, 1751, in a field in the village of Domovec. It was the first fall of extraterrestrial matter in the world to be extensively and officially documented. The meteorite memorial in Domovec features a low obelisk with a life-size replica of the meteorite. It can be reached from the center of Trgovišće via a paved, signposted road. Also in Domovec, the St. Mark’s wayside shrine was erected in 1647 as a memorial and thanksgiving for the Turks’ withdrawal from this area.
