Lasinja lies on the right bank of the Kupa, in a lowland landscape where the river begins its peaceful course toward its mouth. This shapes the options for a stay: alongside the river landscape, two cycling routes with different destinations, as well as a local Ethnographic Museum and church heritage, are among the main attractions.

The Kupa and cycling routes: two different destinations

Routes 48 and 50 combine to form a 14-kilometre cycling route. It starts at Lasinja’s central square and runs through meadows and picturesque countryside to the banks of the Kupa, where there are several bathing spots. A trip in a traditional wooden boat is also recommended for exploring the river around Lasinja. If you plan to do this, check in advance whether it can be arranged.

At 14.1 kilometres, Route 49 is a similar length, but differs in its course and destination: it starts and ends in Lasinja, passing through lowland countryside and a stretch of forest to Lake Ciglana near the village of Crna Draga. Of its 14.1 kilometres, 12.8 are on asphalt and 1.3 on gravel. It is worth checking the GPX track and surface conditions before setting out. Thus, the routes are distinguished less by their length than by the landscapes and destinations described.

The Kupa is also of interest to anglers: fishing tourism has developed along this stretch of the river. Cycling, the riverbanks and fishing are therefore part of the area’s appeal, though this does not imply any particular provider or fixed offer.

Ethnographic Museum and archaeological traces

Lasinja’s Ethnographic Museum is housed in a traditional wooden house, built and furnished to preserve the memory of local traditional architecture. Exhibits include men’s and women’s folk costumes, traditional furniture and household items. The museum opens to interested visitors by arrangement, so be sure to arrange your visit in advance.

The Lasinja culture also gives the area a historical connection. It is an Eneolithic culture dating from 4300 to 3950 BC. Its distribution includes parts of Croatia, northern Bosnia, Slovenia, the Austrian regions of Styria and Carinthia, and Transdanubia in Hungary. Its regional significance thus extends beyond Lasinja, while archaeological finds at Talijanovo brdo offer a specific local point of connection.

Small-scale, non-professional investigations at Talijanovo brdo in 1928 and 1929 mainly uncovered pottery fragments and stone artefacts from the Copper Age, most of which are attributed to the Lasinja culture. Finds from the Vučedol culture were also discovered. The investigations were not documented.

Church heritage and cultural life

Since 2007, Lasinja has been home to the cloistered monastery of the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus, known as the White Carmel. It is considered the only monastery of this order in Croatia. The monastery’s Sacred Heart of Jesus Church has an area for worshippers who wish to pray together with the nuns; another area is reserved exclusively for the nuns.

After the war, a new parish church was built at a new location in Lasinja. On 28 October 2000, it was dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace. KUD Antun Klasinc includes folklore, tamburica and children’s sections, as well as a tamburica school. One of Lasinja’s important cultural and social events is “Pokuplje u srcu Lasinje”. If you want to plan your trip around this event, check the dates.
