Draganić brings together living traditions, historic buildings and opportunities for cycling. Its fishponds and their importance to migratory birds are also part of the destination’s character. When planning your visit, you can first decide whether you’re more interested in local customs and cultural heritage or in cycling routes and nature.

Traditions, crafts and cultural heritage

The cultural and artistic ensemble KUD “Sv. Juraj” Draganić preserves local costumes, songs, dances and customs. The skill of making Draganić puranac is also part of the cultural heritage: it has been included in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods.

Sacred buildings also bear witness to the area’s history. The parish church of St. George in Šipak was first mentioned in 1334. Its bell tower retains late Renaissance architectural elements. In Lazina, the statue and wayside shrine of St. Nicholas are considered among the few monuments dedicated to the saint in continental Croatia.

The Barica Turčić Ethnographic Collection preserves household items, tools, furniture and traditional clothing from the Domladovac cooperative. Its holdings also include a domestic interior from the early 19th century and traditional men’s and women’s clothing from Draganić. The collection offers insight into domestic life and clothing.

Posjed Contessa is a historic country estate dating from the Austro-Hungarian period. Organised visits are available for schools, families and tourist groups. Programmes include guided tours of the estate, encounters with horses and ponies, costumes and themed workshops. As programmes and booking arrangements may change, check the current offer before visiting.

Cycling routes and nature

The cycling routes vary in length and listed surface type. Route 40 is a 23.2-kilometre loop connecting Draganić, the Draganić Forest and a fishpond before returning to Draganić. The start and finish are at Draganić railway station. Route 43, Bregi Draganićki, is listed as a 12.8-kilometre paved loop.

Route 45 starts and ends at the cemetery in Draganić, near the parish church of St. George. It is marked and intended for recreational cyclists and less experienced riders. The listed surfaces are 2.5 kilometres of asphalt and 4.7 kilometres of gravel. A 540-metre section runs along the D1 state road and requires particular caution. Check the latest route information before setting out.

The Draganić fishponds are considered one of Croatia’s most important bird habitats and a significant stopover on birds’ spring and autumn migration routes. The historical educational trail through Draganić Forest covers local events as well as flora and fauna. Piramida is a 220-metre-high hill associated with recreational activities and viewpoints. These natural and landscape features complement the cycling routes.
